Aid for mounting on the trail

Anybody have any suggestions for something to help mount when a mounting block isn’t available? My horse is great about straddling a log or standing in a ditch, but sometimes I have to walk a lot further than I’d like to find something I can stand on to get back in the saddle. My saddle doesn’t have a horn. Any thoughts?

Schneider’s Saddlery has an itsy-bitsy folding mounting step with a string. https://www.sstack.com/easy-mount-step-stool/p/06790/?key=FS-75-999. I got one but confess I have not actually tried it in terms of mounting on the trail. It seems plenty sturdy and surprisingly stable, though.

A friend recommended this to me after I joked that I could only take my mule on trails where there were plenty of fallen logs and tree stumps for getting back on. He has never used one, but was on a long trail ride and one of his fellow riders was using one. He was quite impressed with it.

Do you need more height, more stability, or both?

I’ve always had my eye on this… https://www.hairybackranch.com/the-original-solo-ride/ I ride bareback a lot.

If I have a saddle, I’ve always just dropped my stirrup, but I usually only need a few more inches.

Thanks for the tips! The mounting step at Schneider Saddlery looks like what I need. I had seen this before, but couldn’t remember what it was called or where it was sold. I had never run across the stirrup extender or solo ride–interesting.

I think my horse’s chiropractor would have a fit over that solo ride.

But it is a clever idea!
