Aiken's Horse Show in the Woods

Can one of you true Hunter folks fill in a Show Hunter on what to expect? I am really interested in going to the Horse Show in the Woods this year with my boy to compete on Friday but don’t really know what to expect. I would trailer down Thursday night - where to stable that I can ride in? Can someone recommend a local braider (and approx. cost?)?

Also - I went through the pictures to see if it’s something I could do. It all looks do-able to me, BUT is there a ditch on course?

Please, please - someone walk me through what to expect so I can decide if it’s a good fit for me!

I’m hoping to go too. You can expect to pay $50 for a mane and $35 more for a tail…call Daniel Geitner. He lives in Aiken and can get you some braider and stabling recommendations.

It’s in the middle of Hitchcock Woods…so not sure where you can overnight. I THINK most trailer in and then hack to the woods…which is what I’d do.

I think it’s pertty inviting “natural type” jumps…but i"m sure someone from Aiken will fill you in more than I can…

Be prepared to do a bank.
jumps are solid and well decorated.
lots of brush.
Lots of tailgate parties.
Side saddle classes are impressive.
There are pics from last year at TriState hunter jumper website in the gallery.

Good food too.

I’ll be there for the sidesaddle division. It will be my first time in Aiken, so I am looking forward to it.

I’m not going to make it this year :frowning: Hopefully next year I will find someone to share trailer space with, hotel, etc. Just can’t swing it this year.

This weekend was my first time riding in this show, and it was a great time. The pair and team classes were a hoot to ride in. Our hunt team nailed the triple abreast jump at the end of the team course:

Great picture!! I’d love to someday do the Horse Show in the woods. I never seem to time my Aiken trip to coincide with it. It looks like you all had a great time.
