Does anyone have one of these yet? I know they’re relatively new, but I can’t find any product reviews. I’m interested in this as an option for shows and every day riding in the heat (as it is washable and lighter for the super hot climate where I’m at). While there are lots of standard vest options, I’m looking specifically for input on this model. Thank you!
My daughter has one, she’s very happy with it. She’s 10 and wears the largest children’s size. I think that if we had been able to try them on we might have gone for the smallest adult size.
I’m happy to ask her any questions you have about it’s fit. She has worn it to a few shows but she didn’t get it until our warmest shows were over.
I spoke to a salesperson about this product, and it was described to me as a companion to an airvest for h/j people who are particularly concerned about back injuries but don’t want to wear a full body protector.
It’s not an air vest, it is a low level back protector similar to the one sübben brought out a number of years ago. This is the style that many EU jumpers ride with.
Thank you! Would be curious as to the fit (runs small? Runs large?) - I’m at the higher end of the sizing since they don’t offer a ladies large or even a medium tall.
Also thanks for the info on the Stubben - I hadn’t seen that one. It has much more range in sizing.
The children’s sizes run small. I would expect the adult sizes to as well. I’m sure that I wouldn’t fit into one and while I’m no size 6 I’m not huge! As i said Stübben made a similar product which fits bigger (my daughter didn’t fit the 11-12yo Stübben but the 11-12yo CO is not going to last more than next show season)

I ordered the Adult small and it runs small.
No one said it was an airvest. @touchstone said it was described as a companion to an airvest, not that it was an airvest.
Hello I am bumping this thread to ask if one thinks this vest offers enough protection for a young jumper? I have an 8 year old who is moving up to high jumps and I would like her to have some protection. She resists the cross country body protector I have her wear out hacking.
My 10 year old wears one with her pony, she’s currently riding 95cm jump courses and is moving up to 105cm by the end of the season. I would definitely try it on because even with the 12yo long I think it’s a tad short. Sadly returning it isn’t an issue because of how we bought it.
For anyone who is interested in back protectors but aren’t the size of a small twig, Komperdell and several other manufacturers (Scott, etc) make back protectors as well. Just search for back protectors for skiing or motorcycle riders. I just bought a Komperdell one and it’s low profile, but offers a lot of protection for the spine (back only, not a full body protector). Great option for those who want some spine protection but aren’t onboard for a full body protector for whatever reason.
So I have seen a person that mentioned vest
I wasn’t impressed With the protection at all.
I think it would be easier to ride in the most but I myself am going with an air vest and I think they’re trying to make some that are good for kids.
You need to Google Equisafe safety products the owner is amazing and very knowledgeable about all the safety vest .
I own this vest (as well as a USG body protector and an air vest) and personally I save this exclusively for shows as it fits under a show coat. Outside of that, it just doesn’t provide enough protection. Once my youngster and I reach the 3’+ divisions I will likely be switching to showing in my air vest. The biggest thing to keep in mind is this vest ONLY provides back protection, nothing around the ribcage - and at least in my experience, I tend to land on my side more in the event of a fall.
However - if you’re having a hard time getting someone to wear a body protector, the Shadow is absolutely better than nothing. The USG is my favorite out of my 3 because it provides all-around protection and is super lightweight and moves with me. Not bulky like every other body protector I’ve tried.
Thank you! I will check out the USG. I was looking at the Race Safe body protector for her but can only order from the UK which makes returns really hard. Reviews said it was super light and flexible which I think is her problem with the body protector she has now. It’s really bulky. I have shied away from air vests as her pony is pretty spooky and those canisters are so loud when they go off.
Totally I second RideEquisafe as a retailer - she is where I got my USG and is super helpful with figuring out sizing!
