Alcohol injections for ringbone

Has anyone had the alcohol injections of the front pastern (high ringbone) performed on their horse? Were the results good or bad? I have heard of both and don’t know what the chances of it going wrong are so I am worried. My 18 yo solid paint horse is perfect except for this horrible issue. The ringbone has gotten so bad that he just limps around. He has gone through 2 years of steroid injections which really helped and we were able to go on some wonderful trail rides. Now however, it looks like those days are gone. I just want to make him comfortable and happy again. Any feedback on what experiences you have had, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated. I need to make a decision and am finding it extremely difficult.

Thank you

My initial reaction was that sounds scary and old fashioned, but apparently it is used to fuse joints, if he has high ringbone.

GramV, yes, I have read all those articles and many more. I just cannot find too many real life experience as to what the outcomes really were. I am looking to find out if any horses actually were able to be ridden again, or was it just to make them comfortable to be a pasture mate? I don’t mind putting him out to pasture, however, he is such a wonderful horse to trail ride, and he is only 18 yrs old. Thanks for the reply though.

I hope you get some people who have tried this. I would want the same thing before trying it.
