**almost Newmarket boots :) **

I was tipped off to these in a thread in Off Course: Mountain Horse Serengeti boots

These are beautiful and almost look like traditional Newmarket boots. I have no budget for new boots unless I sell some of the stuff I have lying around.
Perhaps these would work for a less formal hunt?

Gorgeous! Dover sells them too. I’m lusting after these now…

I just saw those too. I like them, but don’t love them. I think it would be really fun to buy a pair of ‘real’ newmarkets, off shelf (vs. custom)

I have New Market boots, very, very old Dahners. They are very old because I only wear them two to four times a year for cubbing at the hunt club. Other than that venue, I can’t imagine where one would wear them. When I was a younger person, I lived in tall boots, but now-a-days I wear Jods and half chaps as I never know how long I’m going to be on the ground vs riding. I do enjoy wearing the New Markets cubbing, but the are a bit of a challenge to keep clean (WHITE canvas!). They are really useless in wet weather. Because they are only canvas on the outside, they are not that much cooler than tall boots.

Foxglove

Okay, I just thought I would note that I don’t consider thos newmarket boots, plus I would really like to register my curmudgeonly grumpy opinion on just how much I dislike these tiny waisted ankles on boots - entirely unattractive. Just awful.

I’m sure the boots are nice quality.

Also, may I ask about new markets? I had always thought they were walking boots, out in the fields, rain boots, sort of a thing, and not meant for riding? But I could be entirely wrong.

AKate, I’m with you on the curmudgeonly Bah! Humbug! opinion.

These are NoWayNoHow the Newmarket boots I coveted in my teens.
And the profile is distinctly not to my taste either :dead:

Yup, Foxglove, that’s what I recall: offwhite canvas tops with narrow leather cuff & foot.
Worn by the well-heeled riders at my barnrat childhood lesson barn.
Only they could afford a second pair of boots along with traditional tall boots in black or brown leather.
I had my Aunt’s black hand-me-downs & was glad of them.
At least I was not in rubber boots.
But oh, how I longed for the canvas-shafted NMs…

This new incarnation looks like fashion boots, not riding.

I have those Mountain Horse Serengeti boots and love Love LOVE them!

I have ridden in them a few times, but because the ankle is so flexible, they let me bring my heel up too much so my dressage trainer said No to wearing them for my dressage sessions since they encourage my bad habits. I have worn them jumping a bit, but mostly just wear them around town with dark skinny jeans. I get a TON of compliments on them and they are super comfy.

I have a pair of these also and love them. I intend to wear them cubbing.

That’s why I titled them “almost” Newmarket  I found a pair of lovely Newmarket Dehners on eBay once, but they were mot my size. No matter, hunting in New England is a pretty brushy enterprise & Newmarket boots wouldn’t last long. But I still like the looks of these.
