Saw this product in the Valley Vet catalog. It’s from Uckele Health & Nutrition. Anyone tried it? I am in a boarding barn and thought it would be easier for the staff than liquid aloe vera. https://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=d8a5c2c2-c85f-4cb0-8c16-abd392c6dfaf&itemguid=e399e249-12da-4caa-b6a2-d8a412a45776#tab-info
Yes, I have and do use them. I have seen good results. One of my horses had both front and hind gut ulcers (based on the Suceed test). After a round of Gastroguard, with my vet’s encouragement, I started giving him aloe vera juice daily (that was before Uckele"s pellets came on the market). I was quite happy to discover them. I use other Uckele products and added them to my order.
They are very convenient and the horse ate them readily. He is no longer on them as he is not showing any more signs of ulcers at this time. When he was on them, I also noticed that his itching from allergies/sweet itch pretty much when away too. I may put him back on this summer if the itching starts up again.
Earlier this winter my other horse was a bit NQR off and on for about a week. Seemed a bit gas colicy. Not surprising given the crazy weather, snow thaw cycles we were having. They could eat from the dormant pasture at times. I gave him a week or two of the pellets and he improved within a day or so of acting a little off. Coincidence on that, I can’t honestly say but I’m willing to believe it gave him just enough relief to get back to his (25 year) old) self.
If you are looking for some anti-inflammatory help, I’d say give it a try. Worst that may happen is nothing and you’re out a few bucks.
Thanks fjordmom! How did you give these: just in the morning, evening, both, …?
Once a day, in the evening with their ration balancer. Both of these guys are air fern Fjords. On is 25 years old and IR so they can’t have unlimited hay or grass 24/7. They are muzzled in the pasture during daytime turnout, but at night once they’ve finished their allotment from their slow feed hay nets there is a time period when they don’t have anything in front of them. I felt this was the time their system was most likely to need the protection of the aloe, so that was my rationale for the timing. Depending on what you are trying to achieve, YMMV and timing may be different.
