Alphabet Soup babies... any advice?

I just purchased a lovely 4 y/o OTTB mare whose sire is Alphabet Soup. I was curious as to other peoples experiences with Alphabet Soup babies. I heard they tend to take a little longer to mature, but are very nice jumpers. She’s a titch down hill, but hopefully with some good food and plenty of grass she can pop up another inch or so. My goal for her is an upper level event prospect, but we will obviously see how that goes.

Any advice or knowledge is wonderful!!

Thanks!

I’ve got one! I got her when she was just 5, luckily they had waited to race her until she was 4, and then only a few times before retiring. She was the easiest horse ever to teach ground manners to, and she’s so sweet and smart. She figured out the basics quite easily, and xc came very easily to her mentally, very bold and thoughtful. She also is a little downhill, so developing her canter was a bit of a challenge, but she managed to jump well the entire time even when getting that balanced. She was never intentionally naughty, and struggles would be if she was confused or trying too hard to do the right thing and she’d work herself up a little, but I’ve never had a horse that had more try than her.

She unfortunately had a back injury so is basically retired at 13, but before that she was schooling preliminary XC easily, and was hoping for a move up within a few months. She just had a beautiful filly last year and was the best mom-so easy to be around and laid back, hopefully she’ll have another in a few more years as well.

Have fun with yours, and post pictures!

Thank you! She’s being shipped down today, very exciting! My trainer loves her hind end and we hope she will be a power house around XC. She’s short backed and built that will be great for jumping. I’m very excited

I have had several…all were very elegant lovely uphill horses, good minds and good jumpers All were SUPER slow maturers…Congratulations…Colleen Rutledge is eventing our (partnered) Alphabet Soup grandson, sire is Your XYZ’s who stands in WV… Pickle (JC Your A to Z’s) was 2nd in 2015 RRP competition with only 19 total schooling rides and ate it up.
