Voltaire-my apology-I was not referring to charlotte as a city-it is indeed a wonderful place. Just my frustration trying to change planes in that airport. I got stuck there 4 times last summer and finally gave up and drove the hour to Cincinnati for direct flights.
I was at the show last year on the weekend, and there were quite a few people in the stands for the Maclay on Sunday. However, there were about 150 kids in the class, so if there were 2-3 people there watching for each kid, that would represent a fair number of spectators. I don’t recall seeing too many people there who looked like they were not connected to somebody in the class.
And yes, the lounge and food were a nice change from the typical horse show.

I know what you meant but read that as driving from Charlotte to Cincy in an hour in which case you should stop on at NASCAR next time you are in Charlotte.
Why does the National Horse Show not offer pony hunter classes? Has it always been that way?

I believe so. Multi discipline in many years but no Ponies. No time and no room more then anything else with a single ring format. Also was more of a showcase for the top horses and Medal riders then event for younger children.
They have their own version every summer, Pony Finals.
They offered pony classes at the National way back when, in the 50s/60s, I believe. They were included again when the show was held at the Meadowlands and at Chelsea Piers.
I don’t remember if they were included at Wellington.
I believe they had pony hunters in the '50’s-60’s at MSG, then again at the Meadowlands.ETA: Great minds, MHM!
I stand corrected then, I have some souvenir programs from friends who went from time to time over the years(heck, decades). No Ponies those years on the schedule.
Pony hunters were part of the MSG schedule until the late 60s when the show moved into the “new” Garden (the current one) and lack of space caused them to be eliminated from the schedule. The thinking was that those children would eventually show in the Jr. Hunter division so still get their chance to ride in the NHS.

Well that makes sense. Thanks!
Is there anything still going on tonight? Stuck on the slideshow
Thank you!

The show at Chelsea Piers was the NY Metropolitan HS it was not connected to to the NHS in any way.

Well, they held the Maclay finals there multiple times, so it was a pretty fair substitute.
Buffering, buffering, reload, buffering, buffering. I can’t wait for our high speed fiber internet to get here, In time for the indoors Next year…

Yup.
I do wonder, with the Gucci Masters to be held in Brooklyn, if the National could ever return to NYC… There is apparently going to be an impressive equestrian center at the Fresh Kills Park on Staten Island once is completed (it’s where the equestrian portion of the Olympic would have been held had NYC won the bid) so perhaps some day that might be a possibility.
I just don’t like the idea of every show, especially our most “special” shows, being held at KHP.
So how big is the wall now?

Yes. The KHP is a great facility, but when it’s used for so many shows throughout the year, that does take away from the “special” aspect of any single show.

The Metropolitan ran for 2 years at Chelsea Piers. It was fun having another show in NYC.
