Alternate tack storage?

Has anyone done something similar? Pros and cons? I had a nice sized tack room in my old barn and it seemed like a lot of wasted floor space considering everything was pretty much mounted to the wall.

With limited space in my 40x40 barn, I’m wondering if this would be a better solution. I currently store my tack in trunks (each of my horses has their own) so those would also move in front of their stalls at home, leaving just my saddle and other miscellaneous equipment that doesn’t normally live in their trunks to go in the locker.

I have a loft for additional storage (winter blankets!) if needed too. Thoughts? Am I going to regret not building an actual tack room?

That is AWESOME! Anything else you wish it had or didn’t have? It looks big, what are the approximate dimensions? I’m halfway across the country otherwise I’d take you up on that

It is big… I’m horrible with measurements but I’d say it’s about 3 1/2 feet wide, 2 feet deep and 8 foot tall. It’s also about 700 pounds :o

IF I could have run an extension cord inside of it, I would have preferred that lighting to the battery-stick on ones I had. I did keep a Damp-Rid thingie in it to control moisture.

Other than that, it was perfect for me and my needs.

The best thing about a tack room is climate control, if you need that. Here we have high humidity and heat.

Once upon a time I saw a barn that had full height lockers in a corner of the stall, triangular so there was just an angled flat wall inside the stall. I thought it was a good use of space.

It was a modular barn, the lockers were metal as were the lower wall sections (probably with composite or wood inside.)

I use a 4’ square rubbermaid shed for tack, it works great. It’s definitely hot & humid here, but I’ve never had any issues with mold, etc. I don’t have a picture of it readily available, but I put a 3-saddle rack inside, shelves on one side wall, a multi-hook hanging rack on the other along with pegboard for some other hangers. It holds a lot of stuff! Weatherproof & extremely durable.

Ooo! I’m loving these giant tack lockers! These could be really cool in a private barn.
