Alternative to Triple Crown Balancer?

I was interested in supplementing my horse’s feed with Triple Crown 30 balancer. However, none of the suppliers in my area have it on hand, and I would not need it often enough for them to commit to a consistent order.
Are there other options similar with the small serving size? (For supplementing a grain diet where the horse is fed less than the recommended amount, TC showed a serving size of .5-1.0 lbs per day).

I am using Buckeye Nutrition’s Gro "N Win. I don’t need to worry about finding it locally because I order it on line from Chewy, and it is shipped free by monthly subscription. A couple of days before he planned shipment, you get an email and a chance to alter the number of bags actually needed that month. The Fedex drivers know that it gets delivered to the barn rather than the house.

I like it because it comes in both 50 and 30 pound bags. The 30 pound bags are a bit more in cost per serving but my elderly muscles find 50 pounds hard to manage.

I have been doing this since the pandemic started in 2020. I did make an attempt to switch back to Triple Crown, but my local feed store considers TC ration balancer as a boutique product, stocks maybe one or two bags every month and charges a premium.

Someone will chime in about the nutrition differences I’m sure. All I know is that my horses seem to thrive on it and getting it delivered monthly is one less stress in my life.

Chewy would be a great option. I’m looking through them now. It’s kind of tricky telling which is a balancer and what is not based on their names. lol

if you are in the eastern US Purina is producing Triple Crown feeds for Triple Crown

the feed store we commonly use never stocked any Triple Crown but are a large Purina dealer, they were able to easily order a few bags of Triple Crown with their Purina orders

I need one bag every 100 days. They dont want to commit to that. I’ve tried asking all of them within a reasonable distance.

Buckeye Gro N Win
Purina Enrich Plus
Nutrena Empower
Tribute Essential K
Progressive ProAdvantage Grass
Sentinel Topline 30
McCauley’s M30
Hallway Stamm 30
Seminole Equalizer

These are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head. I’ve used more than half of those as well as Triple Crown 30; they are all more or less equivalent.

Ooh, this is helpful! I can order Sentinel Topline 30 on Chewy (it has a very small serving size when supplementing on top of another complete feed), and I think our local Seminole dealer might have Equalizer on hand. Thank you!

I went ahead and ordered the Sentinel Topline 30. Thanks again! To top dress other feeds, the rate is just .25-.75 lbs per day!

My horses hated the taste of the TC 30 balancer. I’ve been using TC senior (they do like)…but they get so little that I am seeing some poor hoof quality now, and I think it is because they are missing some key nutrients from basically just eating grass (we have okay grass, but not the highest quality).

I just did another review of whether to go back to a ration balancer or add a v/m supplement. I ordered a bag of Tribute Wholesome Blends Balancer…from Chewy. Going to see if they eat that…but the profile of what’s in it looks quite good!

I am doing this also but have been doing it long before the pandemic. The only feedstore anywhere close to me is TSC and they won’t carry a ration balancer. I can drive an hour or so one way to two different feed stores which may or may not have it when I get there even if they confirm by telephone that they do. Back before I retired and could only go on a Saturday AM this was a big problem. Then I discovered Chewy. At the time the cost for Chewy to deliver Gro N Win to my house was less than feedstore price. I think it still is but haven’t checked. I throw in some catfood and I am over the minimum for free delivery.

I not only get ratuin balancer from Chewy but also cat food like you, plus cat litter and compressed hay bales. I use so little hay (2 pounds per day per horse) when I have growing grass that I don’t mind the cost. But they dropped Standlee a couple of year ago and went to Ametza. Unfortunately too many hotse owners discovered Chewy and the hay availability is pathetic. It is usually out of stock.

You all are so right, Chewy is really the most convenient option for me. The barn owner could pick it up from any of our feed stores locally, but with it being such a pain to get anyone to order just a bag every 3 months, Chewy sounds like the best bet. I had never heard of the Sentinel product, so I’m so excited that it is just going to show up on my doorstep. lol

Purina also has a senior balancer. Enrich Senior is the same feeding amounts just some nice extras added in ( $7 more a bag than Enrich Plus).

My horses are on it now and doing well and inhale every piece but that is how they eat everything.

I’m using Hygain Balance, and I have it on auto-ship from Chewy. I added it to FeedXL and it balanced really well with my horses’ forage.

My competition horse gets 1lb each day and my retiree gets 1/2 lb.

I have been doing horse feed from Chewy also. Tribute.

My horse really likes the Wholesome Blends balancer…for a balancer (he thinks they are all diet food really but he likes it much better than TC / TC Gold). I have to order it from Chewy. I like that it is soy free (horse doesn’t handle soy well) and no added iron. Haven’t had to supplement extra copper and zinc since switching!

I got the bag of Wholesome Blend in - I really like the look of it. Gave both of my two a small handful to see what they thought. My mare thought it was delicious and scarfed it down. My gelding was giving it the evil eye…which he always does anytime you change a supplement or anything in his feed! LOL

Purina Enrich Plus Senior. Highly recommend, especially for older horses. :ok_hand: also, the regular Enrich Plus. Much prefer to Tribute or TC balancers. And, much, much easier to locate and buy.
