Alternative to wheelchair ramp = wheelchair lift

Here’s an idea that may help some of you involved with therapeutic riding centers.

Since a ramp with the correct slope takes up so much floor space, I came up with the idea to use a wheelchair lift from a bus at the therapeutic riding center we volunteered at.

The lift was $60 on CL from a guy who converts used short busses into party busses, and I had to extend our existing platform and add some steel structure underneath it. It’s powered by a garden tractor battery, and that’s charged by a solar charger on the roof of the arena. I also added a 3" high barrier at the open front edge of the platform as required by ADA. No handrail is needed on that side as it’s below 30" high.

When it’s folded up all the way it takes up very little space and you can see through it pretty well.
