Altrenogest Injection cost per month and success rate?

I had done a search about [I]Altrenogest Injection on a few different places and saw that people were paying about $110/month for it including the shipping. Expensive but my mare was a crazy dragon when she came into heat and I couldn’t even ride her. I asked my vet about it and she said her office would look into pricing etc. Well it came today and they did not tell me what it was going to be price wise, actually I didn’t even know they had ordered it. And I just about lost it. Got the bill for $225. I am seriously hoping there was a mix up.

Onto the success rates. How long did it take for you to notice a difference? [/I]

Was the $225 for a multi-dose bottle? We sold our mare this spring. We used to buy a 5ml bottle of the 225 mg strength last year for $130. It lasted for 5 injections with a dosing schedule of every 16-17 days- about 2 1/2 months. Started out using every 21 days as recommended, but found she needed it sooner. There was a larger multi-dose bottle, but it would have been expired before we could use more than 1/2 with one mare. It was a compounded med, but I don’t remember the name of the pharmacy. I also remember there was a shortage last August-Oct.

On the bill it said single dose vial. I am waiting to hear back from the vet’s office if there was a mix up in how they wrote the bill

I’m an equine vet tech in Ohio, we charge $150 per one, 30 day dose There’s just not much else that works with the efficacy of altrenogest that comes in the form of a monthly shot.

$225 seems steep so maybe there was an error on your bill but if not, you might be able to ask about price matching or for a prescription to use online.
