If you like the NY Post story, you should read the book, The Perfect Horse, by Elizabeth Letts that is referenced in the story.
It’s an excellent book that tells the whole story at length.
@Posting Trot yes! familiar with the book. there is also Disney movie Miracle of the White Stallions, as well as this guys video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yVGonC2aLk
The NY Post article is not terribly accurate. It seems to conflate/confuse the Polish arabians and the Lippanzaners. For the record, the Arabian bloodstock was shipped to the US, the Lippanzans stayed in Allied occupied Austria. That was why it was nearly impossible for anyone in the US to get Lippananer blookstock until the 1950s.
this article discusses Witez 11 and it refers to a combination of breeds rescued and the combination of breeds that Witez was among upon arriving in America. https://ilovehorses.net/history-2/a-real-life-war-horse-witez-iis-journey-into-history/
A WWII veteran was a client of the veterinarian that I worked for was one of the US soldiers that helped rescue these horses. He was just a good old farm boy from Michigan that loved animals and happened to serve under Patton. It was an honor to take car of his dogs and meet with him every couple of weeks. I believe that he has passed now.
