Am I Crazy?

Yes, that’s a rhetorical question  We’re all some degree of crazy here, after all! But I just messaged a seller of a horse I’ve never looked at in person before but who was bred and trained by someone I’ve taken lessons with in the past and greatly respect, so I feel like I have a good grasp of what this horse’s upbringing consisted of.

This woman sold her back in 2018 but I can’t get this mare out of my head! I’ve just asked her to pass along my information if the horse’s current owners ever decide to sell. Ideally a few years from now but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if it was sooner. Time to :crossed_fingers: and see what she says!

What crazy horse-related thing has everyone else done recently?

I bought a 2 yo filly sight unseen a little over a month ago! Pretty sure that counts as crazy…and I have a 3 yo getting started under saddle, so having to bring up two babies at once definitely feels like it qualifies me in the lost my marbles category! LOL

That said…the filly came from a breeder I’ve bought 2 others from (including said 3yo who the filly is related to)…and I did get a bunch of videos and talked to someone who worked with the filly and did a proper vetting. So, I checked of the due diligence boxes.

Fortunately, she’s got a super sweet personality and I think we will click very well…though a very different personality from the 3yo.

I lost my 5yo in March and was just at the point with this pandemic that I decided life’s too short - buy the horse. Would have loved to buy something older, but the 2yo was well within the budget…even with adding training to get her started.

Congrats, that’s crazy but also incredibly exciting!

Bought the now two year old sight unseen as a 16 month old gelding last December! He stepped off the trailer from a three day trip in snowstorm about as wild and scrawny as could be. Ran me over the next day (my fault). I spent most of January and February wondering what I had done. And if the breeder had actually sent me the horse I had seen in pictures!
He is now filling out nicely, standing very well for the farrier, vets, and bathing, and generally starting to become a solid citizen.

I had the same thoughts with my 3yo! LOL I bought him as a late yearling…I had seen him in person…but he was a little bit feral and had not had much handling. And he was gelded early because he tended to be a rough player. And I just felt like he was the one (I didn’t go to look at him and had seen weaning videos and was meh about those). But when I saw him I was sold. He came home in December as a late yearling and had virtually no leading manners and no clue about anything. But he was so stinking cute! But he will play nip when you aren’t paying attention. He’s cheeky!! The first week or two, I kept think OMG what did I do/buy!!!

Now I wouldn’t trade him for the world…he is absolutely the coolest horse ever. He is currently at baby boot camp…getting exposed to all kinds of stuff - lots of trail riding, cows, parks with kids and kayaks. Just learning to be a solid citizen (dressage will be super boring when he comes home).
