I love this. Beautiful horse!
Thats a great story! Thank you for sharing
Such a beautiful horse
There aren’t enough hearts to put on your post, LunaBear. I’ve restarted so many OTTBs. I LOVED reading this, thanks!
I have had a few ottbs too, right now a QH (who’s got a lot of TB in his pedigree.) I will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart of a thoroughbred
This story was heartwarming in many ways! The owner sounds wonderful and she got two TB’s to Grand Prix, so awesome!
I really loved her point about rider dedication more than horse ability. There are some horses where the work comes really easily. However, most often the biggest limitation is us. I acknowledge my own lack of discipline is a far greater barrier than my horses athleticism or access to resources. It’s a great reminder to embrace what is within our control, which is showing up and putting in the work and being good listeners to our horses when something seems off.
That is a very good point and so true. I’ve accepted that at this time of my life, I’m not on track to get to the upper levels. And if I’m honest with myself partly because I’m not wanting to put that level work in, right now. Maybe later in life… I certainly won’t blame my horse though!
Thank you for sharing this!
I’ve had a few Ottbs in my life, loved each one of them. Very different rides from a WB (I learned to ride on WBs) and they definitely pushed me to be a better, more sensitive rider.
This quote rings so true to me:
One advantage of riding a Thoroughbred, she said, is their can-do attitude and heart—upper-level dressage might not be as easy for them as for a warmblood, but “they’re the ones who are just going to really try to figure it out.
Great story! Such a positive rider, I like the way she addresses the need to be exact and to get the best out of her horse.
And tb’s as therapy horses? Of course! There’s nothing a tb can’t do with the right training.
