American-bred Grand Prix Horses

So I noticed that US-bred Centurion B just won his second grand prix. http://youngjumpers.com/yjcblog/archives/1632

That got me thinking that we should compile a list of current up-and-coming US-bred GP horses (versus legends of the past). Off the top of my head:

Thank you for mentioning South Bound full TB (JC reg name My Romance) by A Fine Romance x Macassa x Same Direction
bred by me! Gail Parker Rogers
He competed to Advanced in eventing before changing careers.

Congratulations Fred. I’ve updated the original post.

thank you r3dd0G

My trainer’s stallion is getting out in the GP ring more and more…

Latigo (Lavaletto x Concerto II) bred by Sandstone

Keep them coming! I’ll edit the list - and maybe put them in alpha order:)

I LOVE seeing this. While I love the European horses, it’s always cool to hear that something bred/broke/trained here is competitive in the grand prix’s!

Don’t forget Seldom Seen the Connemara x

I guess we need to start another list for dressage horses?

I love this list! Please keep them coming.

Carol do tell about the Connie cross please. You know why!

Terri

Derek Peterson has a Cisco son doing the GPs. His name escapes me but he’s US bred.

He has Eli (aka Cosimo) but he was bred by Timm Peters.

The OP listed I think 17 horses.
I can’t find Apache in the GP lists for 2011
Although Fine Romance is certainly a success anything Fred bred is not a US bred horse
The OP neglected to note that two of the horses on the list are TB’s and apparently bred for racing.

There are 563 horses on the 2011 GP list ( more with ties)

Latigo is in 563rd place with $500 won in 2 comps. I believe someone posted this horse is getting out and about more. Really??

At 13 US bred for sport horses that’s less than .026% of the horses in the US with GP points. Not much to be proud of.

some of the breeders of these horses ( tatra for example ) are big supporters of the Young Jumper division and they should be applauded for their commitment.

The best performance is by symba.

Actually 4 of the horses listed are Thoroughbreds.

Apache just won a CSI4*-W at Spruce Meadows in June. He’s been a top horse for quite a while now. Trouble is foreign wins don’t show up in the USEF Grand Prix rankings.

I’m not sure I follow your desire to dis these horses and their connections. If a horse earned $500 it at least had to jump clear to earn it. Geeez.

I guess we can either remove Fred’s horse or be diplomatic and include the Canadian and Mexican horses as part of the Americas. That would add Rebozo to the list and all the King Ridge horses.

Harry Callahan is Grand Prix (Supreme Heir x The New York Times) bred by Jim Ruwoldt

He is not only American bred, but an American breed

…Beloved MRF ( Belucci x Grusus x Abundance) bred by us, and full brother to our stallion Beste Gold, is a 3rd generation American Born, He will begin his Grand Prix DRESSAGE career in 2012 with Katherine Nelson. I am really excited for the pair. Sadly, after assisting Kathy in getting her USDF Gold medal, he will be sold.

Not all TB’s are bred to race - just a point I thought I’d raise even though I don’t see it as important. Some TB’s are specifically sporthorse bred, (in fact my horse’s sire won $800.00 on the track but was a gorgeous show horse).

Unfortunately, I think it’s hard to keep accurate statistics using the USEF database as there are so many errors/issues:

Add Bristol to the list. Owned and bred by Grey Fox Farm (Kandi and Rusty Stewart), this promising young one started his career in the Grand Prix this year and has won over 14,000.

Also, Wistful, another Grey Fox homebred owned and ridden now by Ashley Bond won the big 7/8 year old class at WEF this one and will be one to watch in the Grand Prix ring in the next few years

Wow, is FYI really american bred? He is certainly a nice jumper and a nice type too. I never would have guessed he was bred here

Bristol is on the list, and yes to up-coming star Wistful, who is by Grand Star out of Rusty’s old GP mare, Power Lady.

FYI is indeed domestically-bred and Oldenburg NA branded. He was International Jumper Futurity nominated, too. Debbie Stephens was aiming him toward the YJC at Hampton Classic, but stepped him up to the GP instead. Looks like he’s up to the job.
