Does anyone know anything about this place? Checking into it for a good friend of mine.
There are other threads on Marina Genn that have been bumped up recently, although they may have been deleted since they got all crazy with house guests.
Unless your friend is an absolute beginner I would not recommend Marina or her place. Maybe she used to be good, I read some of the posts about people talking about her greatness. I didn’t know her then, but I got to know Marina now as a ruthless business woman who could care less about anything except for her dogs and money. I watched her berate children and adults alike on numerous occasions, leaving them in tears. Don’t be fooled by a pretty and expensive looking clean barn! Marina no longer teaches school lessons and she no longer rides, she does a couple of hours of private lessons per week, that’s it. During those lessons she spends alot of time talking, about herself which gets old quick. Overpriced group lessons that are being taught by a barely english speaking barn manager who has no qualifications or certifications to teach. Horses are required to wear side-reins at ALL times, no exceptions - they never come off! Basic training only, no advancement in any discipline. The extensive certification program advertised on the website is a joke and simply does not exist. Boarders beware, unless you are ok with being told what, when and how to care for your horse stay as far away as you can. She refuses medical care for her long term very lame horses and continues to use them in her lessons, she also does not immunize any of her horses. Feeding is changed frequently as she sees fit (times/what kind of food and quantity). Moldy hay! Horses are often turned out without any hay at all. Turn out at night only for most of the year, because day turnout would be to disruptive for her staff, blankets are never used because it is too much work and she corals all the horses on a small dirt lot for the entire winter because her next door housing development needs to be able to look at green pastures. Last but not least her methods reflect her credentials - they are out of date by at least 30 years.
