Legit maiden win in hand at 2 lengths for AC. 1.03 is respectable especially at 7 - 1. Brother would be proud.
Well I was impressed. Looks like the “experts” blew this one.
Yeah, baby! I got goosebumps all over my arms from that!
Lovely win.
AC would have been my sentimental bet over the Union Rags filly who was also nice.
Is there video of this race that someone could post please?
P.
How was she 7-1?? I would have thought public interest and sentimentality would have played a bigger part. Plus she had good works and Baffert would not run her somewhere she would flop with all the attention. Wish I had bet!

Actually, its been statistically proven that the better racemares are better producers. Being as its horses, nothing is set in stone, and theres many examples of ordinary mares producing top horses, but it you take an overall sample, its been shown to be true.[/QUOTE]
She’s right. But Tesio thought that exceptional race mares were more often than not busts in the shed. He thought they used up their vital energy (a now discredited theory of his day) racing before they got to breeding. I think exceptional race mares rarely are able to reproduce themselves, but it’s better than 50-50 that they will produce runners.
I’ve never tacked up a tb (racehorse), so what kind of tack issue is going on at 2:15 in this link (girth area):

Thanks.
Wow, she has certainly arrived!

Just a guess, but one of the girth straps came out of its keeper, maybe? They have an overgirth, too, not put one of those on so I’m not sure how it goes…doesn’t look like anything’s loose, just the long end is free, but in the still pictures of her coming back, it’s not long enough to get stepped on.

The magic of Stewart Elliott. I know he’s been riding for Baffert in the AM, but it still sent the message they weren’t expecting anything out of her, whether or not that was their intention.
According to the commentators, Baffert had been suggesting that AC probably needed more distance. It appears the handicappers took that to mean AC lacked speed. The other Baffert filly was taking all the money.
Baffert must have Teflon in his genes.

As Dancer said, it’s the long “tail” of the over-girth. There is only one on it. The selection of over-girth lengths is somewhat limited. So on some horses it may have a long tail after being properly fitted.
The single buckle is centered on horse’s belly. There are several keepers that the tail end run threw and the excess is looped back into the keepers towards the buckle. Sometimes it shakes loose during the running of the race. It’s not long enough to be stepped on and or interfere with the running horse.
As they say s**t happens.
Thanks Dancer & GT! I hope I didn’t sound judgmental, just trying to learn. I appreciate the help!
I think Baffert’s “regular” west coast jock was on the other coast this weekend.
Makes sense, at least to me, to put the morning workout rider on a maiden if your preferred jock is out of town.
I do recall Baffert also commenting that he thought AC needed more distance but didn’t get the impression he didn’t think she was in over her head. After the race during the interview he made some comment about the odds she went off at and was surprised she wasn’t lower
That loose strap could have been a problem the way it was bouncing back and forth between her legs. Didn’t seem to bother her at all. I cringed on the gallop out thinking "gawd I hope there isn’t a buckle on the end of that!
She had a fine race, I will admit I was hoping the Union Rags filly would win.
She runs like her big brother. Light in the front end… One of the things I noticed about AP early on was how he galloped… without the typical drop onto the supporting front leg that many racehorses have… it landed it seemed just enough to support the repositioning of that big engine behind… like a gymnastic doing round offs… but cheating a little. You would say he moved uphill if he were a dressage horse.
I will definitely be looking at her next race.

Me too. I hope Union Rags makes it as a stallion.
