American Saddlebred Sporthorse breeders?
And don’t get me wrong, I am completely open to the SS bred/trained. Especially the youngsters that wash out at 3-5 years old. I’m just not near any of the auctions where they end up. And I have no contacts in that world to get them direct. I’d love to get them directly from the farms so the poor kids don’t have to go through the public sale experience and exposure to strangles, etc.
I have known a few SB trainers who would have been happy to move their younguns that aren’t going to make it as show horses into sport horse homes. Find out who the SB trainers are in your area and give them a call. Usually really nice people and probably don’t really want to send the horses to auction anyway. Or call Nealia at SB Rescue and ask her for advice. Network network network!

This is my guy. He was Top Ten at Louisville (Fine Harness) as a 2 year old and did some Futurity stuff. My mom bought him to be a lesson horse and a step-up horse out of Academy. Not so much. He will not tolerate being a saddleseat horse at all and is now hopefully going to be my dressage horse. He has the biggest personality and the best work ethic. He knows when I pull in the driveway and if I don’t go to his barn first you can hear him talking to me across the farm.

Here is his sale page. We paid less than $1k for him. I would pay a million dollars to have his much younger clone! I’m on the lookout for full siblings, I like him that much.

I owned a Saddlebred Jumper Stallion for many years. When I sold him to Tim Daily in VA, his wife rode him under Joe Fargis. Joe said that he loved him and would have ridden him himself when he was younger. That’s a pretty big compliment for a Saddlebred. That being said, my stallion was a direct 3 way cross of the oldest great blood. His sire was a Son of Genius Bourbon King, and his dam was the Sister of Wing Commander. Names that are only found several generations back now. It’s those old lines you want to get as close to if you want the size and substance. My stallion was one of those “wash outs” you mentioned for saddleseat. His head set wasn’t high enough for the new ring preferences, and the breeder should have seen that coming when he took the last of the old blood and crossed it. There is another breeder here in NC somewhere that has that old blood with substance, and Tim Daily did breed my stallion several times to TB and WB mares. Not sure if he still has some offspring or semen. The stallion died about 5 years ago… There was another stallion who looked much like mine and was also big. His name was Flight Time. You might want to research where any offspring are…

I have a County Treasure gelding I believe has good potential. His mother is a more compact Callaway bred mare, and I think its a good cross . I haven’t done much/enough-- but so far hes been so willing to do whatever I ask of him. And a general sweetheart to be around.

I just saw this new website for sport horse prospects:
http://www.posh-asb.com/

I was actually a part of that website coming into being! I think it will be a great resource for finding an ASB prospect (or made sporthorse) in the future!

OP, there’s a young ASB mare on the Giveaways forum.

Edit: Never mind. I see you already found that post.

I’m in the market for a saddlebred hunter is anybody knows of any nice ones

You might want to start following this Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/756263401075217/?multi_permalinks=1621187457916136&notif_t=group_highlights&notif_id=1498234346174982

Contact Lenore ‘Tony’ Weldon of Callaway Hills Stable. https://www.facebook.com/bestbredamericansaddlebreds/
and specifically ask her if this horse is still available: (You may need to go to that page to watch the video, am not sure if copying and pasting will work.)

SPORT HORSE prospect or one a good AOT would enjoy training & riding. Callaway’s Can’t You Tell? is a handsome 5 yr year old gelding. Game, smart, a gifted natural athlete, we believe he could easily excel in a number of disciplines. He was in the barn, turned out, then brought back in & worked again, because he is so talented. We’ve now accepted the fact he’s merely too forward headed to set his head well enough to be a show horse.

p.s. I just scrolled down her page, and saw some sad news. She no longer has a trainer capable of starting young stock, and she has some young stock she needs to sell. Copied and pasted from that page :

“I do need to sell the remaining nine 3 yr old prospects & a 4 yr old mare in the training barn. A very nice group, if I do say so- Regrettably, thru no fault of their own, they began 2017 behind in their work. Over the last few months however, each has steadily progressed. Obviously, I’m aware these days most young horses will sell for more the closer they are to show ring ready. Nevertheless, without a trainer, my focus is preventing any to measurably backslide in their various levels of training.”

Try Saddlebred Rescue. They evidently have a couple of young, nice hunter types in the Rescue, and I believe the actual training barn has a couple show hunters too. I know I saw one of their hunt seat horses for sale a while back and she was drop dead GORGEOUS…really beautiful natural dressage type movement. Don’t know if she is still available?

Also contact MAS Sport Horses (Melanie Sloyer) on facebook. She has a nice gelding.

Saddlebred peeps, take a look at what Dressage lovers are swooning over on this thread

https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/dressage/9798714-can-you-see-the-reasons-why-they-won-t-sell-this-foal

…and tell me you can’t find a young Saddlebred for Dressage?

Apparently we need to ship the broodmares to Europe and sell the foals to be imported back to the USA -LOL!

Saddlebreds are truly the steal of the century; I almost think we lose sales because people are willing to ‘give them away’ for under $$ if they aren’t quite ideal SS prospects so everyone thinks there is something wrong with them!

OP, keep looking.
Your horse is waiting for you.

My client found a really nice one, that just wasn’t going to have enough flash for the saddle seat arena. He wasn’t a reject, he just wasn’t the right horse for what they were producing. I think she paid less than 5k, and he was broke to ride, drive, and had extensive handeling. He’s lovely, and I so hope I will get to ride him next year. She transported him home, after buying him sight unseen, and turned him out to grow up another year. I think she found him on the saddlebred sport horse Facebook site.

There’s a lady on my FB page selling a cute bay 2008 ASB gelding, very much an ASB Huntseat type. Her name is Mel Lueck. OP, if you’re still looking, please PM me so i can get her contact info to you.

There are a quite a few trainers that are very interested in finding quality homes for ASB’s that won’t cut it in the show world. Just contact them or call the ASHA they can facilitate the meetings.

Ladylexie are you still looking? This drop dead gorgeous 5 yr old green bean just came available in PA.
