Hi, I am breeding my sport pony mare in the 2013 breeding season. The foal could either be registered American warmblood registry, or American warmblood society. I was wondering if one was prefered over the other? Thanks!
AWR is prob more respected
We use AWS - the inspector is knowledgeable, the customer service has been quite good, and they seem to have more horses and more members - we show dressage, and I like that they have several horses throughout the levels (into FEI levels) in the USDF All Breeds results every year.
On THIS forum, breeders far prefer the Euro registries, but I’ve had great luck with AWS, and have appreciated their inspection services and good customer service and reasonable costs.
If you want inspection services - I’d look at who has inspections closer to you - that can make a big difference. O/W - what specifically are you looking for from a registry? Hard to say which is better without knowing what you are looking for.

Without a doubt, yes, the AWR is more respected.
OP if you do a search you’ll find many threads about this topic. Neither registry really gets much respect. Is there a reason you think your foal will only be eligible to be registered as an American Warmblood?
both are way down the list, so it really does not matter.
We use the AWR as we are American, doing business in America and 100% support American breeding. I have respect for those using the AWS, especially mentioning on this forum as there is a lot of “sorority hazing” here.
Thanks for all the posts it’s really helped with my dicision. I would love to use ISR, but the stallion I have selected is not approved with ISR (Dakar VDL) so the foal is not eligable for registration. I might search around for approved stallions but I think I’m pretty set on Dakar because his conformation, and movement compliments my mare very well. Does anyone know of an approved ISR stallion similar to Dakar VDL?
What are your sport pony’s lines? Can she be inspected? If he is the approved stallion you should be able to do ISR or maybe Weser Ems if you can have her approved with foal at side.
You are talking about the Grey stallion approved for KWPN, right?
OP, are you trying to get a pony, or a small horse? If you are considering the KWPN Dakar, he is 17.1h. I would be very loathe to breed a pony mare to a stallion that tall!
If you are wanting a pony foal, consider a German or Dutch Riding Pony stallion (Weser-Ems, New Forest, etc.). They are bred to be sport ponies and look and move and jump like small warmbloods. You can find the 2012 Weser-Ems stallion roster here - http://oldenburghorse.net/katalog/Ponykatalog/ . The 2013 roster isn’t out yet, but many of the stallions on the 2012 roster will be back for 2013.
Also, Weser-Ems is administered in North America through the Oldenburg Horse Breeders Society. Your mare may be eligible for breeding approval with WE, so if you use a WE approved stallion, the foal would get WE registration papers. This is a very highly respected pony registry affiliated with the Oldenburg Verband (it is basically the “Oldenburg” pony registry).
Did you call Old/ISR? A lot of registries allow you to use a stallion approved by a different registry they approve of (IE if I wanted to reg a foal KWPN Reg A out of my TB mare I could use a GOV stallion provided his test scores were high enough) for an additional fee.
