Amerigo

Hello everyone,

I’m an eventer, and a few years ago, during a period where I wasn’t riding a whole lot and needed the money, I sold my dressage saddle (a decision which I now deeply regret!). I’ve been riding in my jumping saddle which is an Amerigo, and I love dearly. However, while it’s super comfortable and I do love it, I still prefer to flat in a dressage saddle… so I’m thinking of getting another. Now that I’ve fallen in love with my Amerigo, I’m looking into their dressage models. However, I’m noticing that there are a ton for sale on ebay. Am I reading too much into it, or is this some sot of sign that people don’t like them?

Have you ridden in them/what’s your opinion? I love my Amerigo jumping saddle but I’ve never ridden in their dressage models.

Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Find a local rep with saddles in stock and try out several models. They are fantastic saddles with a more forward balance point, which some riders do not like. However, it is a very personal decision, and you may like it, since you enjoy your jump saddle made by them. Rest assured though, structure and quality wise, no worries.

I have both an Amerigo jumping saddle and a dressage saddle. I love both. The dressage saddle is beautifully made, love the balance point, love everything about it. It is a MN tree and currently does not fit any of the boys. It is in beautiful condition; let me know if it would fit your horse >;->

As to how many on ebay…I think saddle fads come and go, and then the last fad becomes passe. Only my theory…but its how I got a lot of nice saddles through the years >:->

I love their saddles, unfortunately their tree shape does not fit my TB.

Sooo comfy. There are plenty for sale, but I would be hesitant, since they are a wooden tree and could be broken. Especially on Ebay, its a risk you take.

I think they are still a fad, but there are SO many option out there now that they just aren’t the biggest fad now.

Unfortunately I would be looking for a MW, but thanks anyway!

It’s odd because everyone always talks about how their tree shape is designed for TBs, but I have a very atypically shaped TB who fits in mine beautifully. He’s got very minimal withers and is quite round like a WB!

Anyway, I will keep my eye out but thank you to all the advice!

I’ve heard people saying that Amerigo is made for TB’s, it has the perfect shape, but the Amerigo is too Banana-ie for my guy. He’s short backed, nothing crazy withers. Prestige fits him perfectly, so I stick with that brand.

My Amerigo fit one of the Oldenburgs perfectly >;-> you never know. I have bough a lot of saddles on ebay and have always been happy, but yes, it can be a risk.

My Amerigo jumping saddle just seemed to fit every horse I put it on. It was always my favorite. I now have a custom Tad Coffin jumping and a custom TC dressage and they are pretty amazing. I also love my Butterfly.

pm’d you.

I had an Pinerolo Alto Dressage saddle that I loved but horse didn’t (a OTTB). Loved the forward balance and natural position it put my legs in; however, horse hated it. I tried Amerigo’s on two other horses that also had opinions about them. The can be adjusted by the Amerigo Distributor, don’t know how many sizes they can go up or down. I’d try one before you buy. Equestrian Imports is a dealer and has a nice trial program for saddles and usually has a few used ones. The prices for new = ouch for off the rack; you might be better off with custom in that price range.

I like Amerigo’s, but you have to get the right one for your horse’s shape. I currently have an Alto, which is designed for a horse with a rising topline, has a more “banana” shaped tree. my mare doesn’t fit it. (currently for sale!)
I used to have a CC Jump (1999 model) and she seemed to like it. the leather is good quality. but yes, the price can hurt (7000$ new eek!)
Just ordered a brand new equipe jump saddle for my mare, and am in the market for a dressage that actually works. i am looking at amerigo, but not sure my pocket book would allow it.

I have Vega model jump and dressage saddles and love them! I use them both on a FriesianX and an RPSI (both 15.2 and use a wide tree). I wish the dressage had a slightly deeper seat to help me not flail around during exuberant tempis, but it keeps my leg in a happy position the other 95% of the time. I also feel like I can flat well in the jump model.

My horse also hated the Amerigo.
He likes the Vega. I ride in the double flap. It has a half block.

Amerigo and Vega have different trees. Wood vs. Spring.

The upswept panels fit horses great.
