Amy MacNair Gemstone Clover

If you are thinking of breeding to Amy MacNair’s Gemstone Clover stallion, please continue to read about my experience to make an informed decision.
Amy advertised a sale on the stud fee for Gemstone Clover Dec 2024. I requested a copy of her breeding contract and read it thoroughly. I researched the collection site that she had in her contract, Colorado State University, I liked their program and felt confident they would work well with my vet. I paused on a clause she had put in the contract along the lines of “you cannot negatively speak about me or the stallion on social media”. This was not my first time going through a breeding contract but it was my first time seeing that clause in one. However, I ignored the red flag and proceeded to pay the stud fee. In March 2025, Amy sent a completely different contract and demanded all her mare owners sign it if they wished to proceed with a breeding. Since the new contract changed the collection site to one I was not comfortable with, I requested a refund or she honor our original mutually signed contract. Amy stated there was no way she would refund me because that “would put her in the poor house”. She said if I wanted her to honor our original contract I needed to give her more money and the stallion would not be available to my mare until July 2025. Amy’s responses to me were illogical, unprofessional, and unethical. I reported her unethical behavior to the North American Irish Draught breed society but they stated they would not get involved and have continued to allow her to advertise on their Facebook page. I am left feeling disappointed in the society for not holding higher standards for stallion owners, missing the window to breed my mare, and having my money taken.

She has the majority of other breeders and even other members blocked on SM for no reason even though the rules on our membership FB page says we can’t block other members on the page, and they won’t enforce that either :woman_shrugging:. Her stallions are nice and I was interested, but after she blocked me for no reason that I’m aware of and after reading some stories, there is no way in hell.

Is it worth taking her to small claims court to get your money back?

That’s sad to hear the facebook group admins won’t take action against her and allow her to continue to prey on people. I’m fairly new to the NA Irish Draught community and I just feel like I’ve been taken advantage of by a known shady breeder.

Being from separate states makes things quite complicated for small claims. I think she knows that and that’s how she gets away with taking people’s money without recourse.

Having known her years and years ago, well before she got into breeding, I am not surprised there are issues with professionalism. I’m very sorry you’ve had such a poor experience.

Oh man that sucks to hear, Tucci is nice but her cheese seems to have slid off her cracker. I’ll invest in other lines.

Amy’s latest attempt to intimidate me and suppress my 1st amendment right. She sent this to me at 3:12 am this morning:

“I will also contact the editor of that magazine. She is one of my best breeders.”

You’re talking about someone who literally posts her stallion EVERY time someone asks for a stallion suggestion. Doesn’t matter what kind of mare or what the criteria are, she posts. The most recent example was a 16.1ish mare that the owner wanted to downsize. Yep, Amy posted to recommend her stallion. Someone even asked her how the downsizing would work. No reply.

If she’s talking about The Chronicle, I wouldn’t pay it any mind. This tactic has been attempted by others to shut down discussions here and it hasn’t been very effective to date.

I can think of a couple people like that. I had to mute/snooze the Dressage Breeder’s group for a while because there were a handful of stallion owners who suggested their stallion for literally everything from a Yak to a Morricone… and most times the stallions were a little… underwhelming for the quality I consider that group to produce.
