Anaprin /Asprin- does your horse eat it?

I have an appy just diagnosed with Uveitis. I need to give daily asprin. ( Anaprin is flavored). I am worried he won’t want to eat it. i give him ONLY a 1/4 cup of pellets each meal to make him think he is actually getting Something. but he is already fat, and i hate to add more grain. My barn is NOT good for high maintenance boarders.

If your horse does not like the asprin, what do you do to help with that?

I had a pony on aspirin for a little while, she would eat most of eat by not enough to make the old retired nurse in me happy, so I mixed it in applesauce put it in a big oral syringe and dosed her that way. She was super good about it, it was orange flavored so between that and the applesauce it was palatable. I think she wouldn’t finish it in her bucket because of the texture.
ETA: missed the part about the barn not being good about high maintenance boarders, guess my idea won’t work.

We have several horses on Aspirin, I get Vetone brand from my vet. It cheap and they get a whole dose in a teaspoon of powder. It is Apple flavored and even my pickiest mare eats it on her cup of pellets. Might be an option to look at if your horse will eat some but not all. Im not sure how much volume the Anaprim is, but I think mine don’t notice it because it is such a small amount.

thanks i will look into this.

My aspirin is apple flavored, and my mare eats it no problem with about 2 cups of her pellets. It’s the Select brand, and smells like apple pie to me!

I tried it once and had a heck of a time getting a mare to consume it. I was using Omolene to mix it with and had a lot uneaten. Sounds like there are better options. Aniprin had a very distinctive smell.
