And the images start coming out.....

love the pic of Patrick leaning so far forward to shove an errant tongue back in…

how can it be that this is what dressage has come to? while i know these are just moments in time, I am sure the vids wont be far behind…

this makes me so sad… the noble and beautiful sport of dressage reduced to this :frowning:

I hope that the stewards were nearby?

Really. Why are we treating our horses this way?

To be honest ,I am quite sickened by Some of these Pics.

How can this be allowed???

“We” aren’t, “they” are… and yet many of “us” strive to be like “them”. That’s the sad irony.

Cindy, I meant “we” as in civilized people of the 21st century. Thank heaven not all of “us” do Rollkur. That any civilized person considers it appropriate is beyond me.

LOL - civilized people are about as easy to find as the ones with common sense! I think they are all hiding on the same tiny island!

oh.my.god. you have got to be kidding me. please tell me this is the work of photo shop.

WHERE are the stewards???

I am not a judge.

I am not competing FEI yet.

But I do know what was rewarded today in the ring was super-short necks with noses cranked in as far as possible. Upright necks? Sort of.

Sort of like an ASB.

The couple of rides I thought really lovely with not super-tight reins and short necks, did not score well.

Even when the horse is let down, the necks and toplines are lacking… necks are looking far more swan like.

Or is that just the “modern” warmblood? :uhoh:

I was really blessed to see some AMAZING HORSES AND RIDERS. But I was dismayed at what was rewarded and what wasn’t.

Of course, that’s why I’m not a judge…

Almost makes me want to take up a new discipline. I can’t believe all of those pics are just of a “bad moment.” Looks like systematic riding with chin to chest. Yuck - definitely NOT my cup of tea.

Interestingly enough, the photo captions seem to have no sense of irony… Here’s so and so, just practicing, oh and the horse is craning its neck to look at the flowers, and here, he’s fixing his tack, and so on. Wow.

Well so much for FEI’s enforcement policies and steward’s manual.
If I had the money I would seek an injunction to prevent these competitors from being in the games for horse abuse

FYI…can be done in Federal District Court

What I’ve learned from the scores on the first several rides on the replay is that a great shoulder with a nice goosestep apparently makes up for a multitude of sins. Like a jammed up neck plus tension, a lateral walk, a hind end that is still trailing somewhat, etc. Too bad. It does seem to indicate, though, that having a goosestepping horse in grand prix dressage doesn’t teach one how to sit in a western saddle in a gallop circle. Maybe they need more LDR on the palominos.

Two thumbs up, Ziggy!

No, not photo shop, but clearly a photographer with a nationalistic agenda.

Zig, dahlink, I was trying to be diplomatic, but you nailed it… I definitely saw hollow backs–but I will chalk that up to the cold rain until proved differently. The necks? We gave away our secret weapon at the opening ceremonies… the ASB. :stuck_out_tongue:

(ducking and running now as I’m off for day two dressage… )

What a shame.

And at the world games right out in plain sight. Guess it is an accepted practice.
How very sad.:(

These were pictures of schooling, not warmup. Do the “rules” apply to all riding on the grounds or just the warmup?

People don’t forget this is a picture and it doesn’t tell the entire story.

Well I am total defender of good riding, deep or not. But I don’t like the pictures of the dutch riders posted in St. George - pretty bad. The magazine is definitely pro German though!

The stewards should be watching everywhere the horses are schooled. So, I will be generous and say that if the stewards were there, these must have been just very small moments in time. Hopefully that photographer had to wait a long time to catch just the right awful picture.

I did see a few lovely tests, unfortunately maybe not so well known riders, and a couple of bobbles make these horses and riders score just in the middle of the pack.

I saw a few very short incorrect necks, which were rewarded nonetheless. I was watching Nadine go, and even though I don’t like the outline, I kept having to say to myself “well those changes were nice, that passage was at least a 7, the trot half passes were good etc etc.” I guess the judges have to say the same thing. At least these combinations are not getting 80% which would imply that they are getting more 8’s than 7’s. Hopefully today will show some more inspiring work and more inspiring judging.
