...and this is why high tech pads are so hilariously mockabke sometimes...

This lady is my new hero:

Love it! Thanks for the link.

Hey! At least it’s good for a beer cooler.

(I’d like to see more of her reviews.)

Lol, years ago I got one of the pro choice air ride pads and it was left on the side of the round d pen and a horse chewed the corner of it, I was pretty impressed to find my $200 hi tech pad was using cutting edge bubble wrap technology for impact absorption .

Wow. :frowning:

Air Ride… what’d you think it was? LOL

It would be nice if she told you what pads had the better products.

I looked on her main Facebook page and found (in comments from another video) “XRD laminated to a soft tissue support foam called Poron.”

It’s in the comments under the foam saddle panel review.

Her website selling her saddle pads - I saw somewhere she previously worked for another big name company that I’m drawing a blank on at the moment.

Her saddle pads may indeed the next best thing since sliced bread, I don’t know, but I thought poron inserts have been around in the endurance world for a long time now though. Skito comes to mind.

Well not sue what her selling affiliation is but regardless, the Air Ride pad is truly a laughably bad pad. I’ve always hated them since I took lessons and I used my trainer’s (she also hated it). I just didn’t realize it was quite literally styrofoam in there.

$600 for a full size western saddle pad? Although the prices for half-pads and the endurance pad seem pretty well in line with higher end products from other manufacturers.

A while ago, after a hip injury, I did a bit of searching around for hip protectors that could be used when riding. Poron XRD showed up in a number of those searches.

I think there are several different companies that make saddle pads with Poron XRD foam, but I have no idea if there are different types/grades of foam that fall under that same name or if they are all the same stuff.

I think I’m just too cynical. I was so excited when I saw that video and thought it was a review by someone unbiased but when I realized she had another website selling pads it was a little disappointing.

Yes, I do realize that sounds really stupid. lol Apparently I am still a child mentally even though I’ve reached the ripe old age of 46.

I’m sure her pads are very nice and if the poron inserts are the same as the one she dropped the bowling ball on it really did show a big difference compared to the others.

I wish I had a bowling ball and an insert from a skito pad. I’d have my own experiment this afternoon.

I am older than you are and I felt the same way when I realized she was associated with selling a different brand/style of pad.
I thought it was cool that someone was dissecting pads and giving their thoughts. Not so cool when it is not really as unbiased as it seems.

Thank you, trubandloki - you said it much more eloquently than I managed to. I don’t think my morning coffee ever truly kicked in.

Makes me wonder what the dimensions are on her western half pad. Because that’s only $180. I would pay that.

What’s the difference in the western half pad and full pad? It looks good size to me - is it a thickness difference?

I just sent her a message asking. I’ll post if/when I get a reply. It looks to me like it just fits closer around the edges of the saddle but IDK.

I’ve never liked the Charmayne James barrel pad. I guess I don’t need some random person on Facebook to tell me that!

Several years ago, I ordered one off the “final clearance” page of one of the online tack stores. It was stupidly cheap, probably because it had an ugly pattern on it. I was shocked at how awful it was. Stiff and slippery. I couldn’t believe anyone would ever pay the full list price for it.

However, I will say that I have 2 Professionals Choice SMx All Purpose English Pads that I really like. They may well be nothing but Styrofoam inside, but they work very well for the horse I use them on. I don’t think Professionals Choice makes them anymore, though.

Poron XRD is also in the Toklat Matrix pads…and been there for awhile…

So for those who were wondering about the Jen X western half pad, per Jen is 28" long, 25" wide, and 1 1/2" thick. They are designed for the inserts to go inside. They can be used with or without a blanket over the top and are washer and dryer safe.

The $600 ones are about 1/8" thicker and usually run 32"x38".
