Andalusian (?) Stallion found in Riverside, Ca

Has anyone else seen this on Facebook? A very nice looking boy, and so far he hasn’t been claimed (or they haven’t updated their Facebook page) for the four days he’s been at the shelter.

Hopefully this is the right link!

“This HANDSOME stallion is here at our main shelter. Came in a couple days ago. But where’s the owner? We don’t know. It is such a wonderfully cared for animal. Horseshoes were very nice. Well groomed and very healthy. We’re posting these pictures here to raise awareness that, yes, we do impound stray horses. Some horse owners may not realize that we take in horses. So, equine enthusiasts, please spread the word! Hopefully the owner is out of town and just has not had the chance to contact us yet.”

Wow, beautiful horse. He’s obviously been cared for, and recently. Wonder where they found him? I reposted it since I’m in So. Cal. Just noticed it says they checked for a chip and he doesn’t have one.

Thank you for reposting! I live in Florida and don’t know many people in California, so not much help!

I’m surprised he doesn’t have a chip or a brand. All of my Iberians have either one or the other.

He likely belongs to a Hispanic family. I’ve never known them to chip. The one prized stallion I met, bred in Mexico, had a brand of 42, to mark what number foal he was. There was no other brand and he bred him to everything. They had other younger Andalusian’s, but they weren’t branded or chipped. The selling/buying mainly stayed inside the Hispanic families circle. No breed shows or anything to need those important things. :frowning:

Wonder what is meant by “Came in a couple days ago”? He was left at the shelter, found his way to the shelter on his own, or was found wandering around? I have to wonder if he is sound. Both front legs look to possibly have ringbone (looks bad on left front) and pasterns could be dropped. In second photo, is that a bow on his left front? I hope he either reconnects with his owner soon, or finds a great new home!

Oh my, how did my stallion fall off my gelding bus here in Illinois?! I’ll claim him!

There was another guy on FB advertising an Andalusian or similar on October 22nd. The story was that the owner was having a fire sale. It could be that they turned this stallion loose as part of that. Video for the other horse made the help and place look very, very backyard.

I will call the shelter tomorrow with the guy’s name.

He was found in the Santa Ana riverbed. He’s certainly a charro horse, and I heard thirdhand that someone who saw him move in person said there are serious lameness issues. Unreliable info, make of it what you will.

More likely a Lusitano with that profile.

I didn’t want to say it in my previous post, but I was really hoping someone didn’t dump him due to lameness problems. I still hope that is not the case. He certainly has some concerns visually on his front legs. Odd that no one has reported a lost stallion.
