the sad part is she is likely ousting him because of a business deal gone sour. Not because of any care in the world for the welfare of the animals in question here. She obviously had no problem with his actions riding her horses when the business deal was sparkling.
As I understand it, it was a FRENCH equestrian magazine that published the story and provided pictures and it was as a result of this French article that the FEI has action.
From the article in the link Cinderella posted:
We now know that ECIU was contacted first by the whistleblower, who then went to Grand Prix with information. (Why a French news outlet was chosen in favor of a North American one, I don’t know.)

The next thing we know he’ll try to resurrect his stature by promoting Summit Joint Injections!!
Em
Summit is not used interarticularly nor is it marketed as such.
The name of the company is “Summit Joint”.
Summit Joint is given via an IM (intramuscular) injection. And that’s how they refer to it in their marketing literature. Xctrygirl never said it was an interarticular injection.
He’s on the Tuerk’s farm in Charlottesville, VA. He’s showing at HITS Culpeper.
They’ve actually re-branded for the 1083757th time to “Summit Performance Products” for what it’s worth. They’re expanding into magikal topical ointments and other potions now
Posters on Diva seem to think it’s more personal than business. Jealousy and vengeance are the prime motivators for the whistleblower. A tale as old as time, and given what’s been witnessed of her behavior, not at all difficult to believe.
Except he’s a garbage bag. Whether his former employer has reason to talk about how he’s a garbage bag has little to do with him being a garbage bag. Cause he’s garbage.
At least, she will have done something right and useful for once.
If this Erica girl took the photo she knew he was doing it. Why did she wait to out him and how many times did she see him use it and do nothing? My thoughts are that she wouldn’t have, but there was a falling out between them and then she took revenge and posted. In my opinion she is just as culpable as he is.
He is still under investigation, so at the moment it has not been proven, but it looks bad.
So she’s also garbage for bankrolling him, but hey, good on her, as Alibi said, for calling out a trashbag who uses horses like kleenex.
Unless you are a long distance owner, how can you be a client at shows with a trainer and NOT realize he’s got a rig like that on? That seems incredible to me. I can tell you what color sports bra my trainer has on. There’s no way some of that wasn’t visible when he tacked up, in the warmup ring, when he came out after a round, etc. Not to mention it must have been around in his tack setup the way your spurs and crops are around. Unless he was wearing that 24/7 with a million layers and only changing back at the hotel-- people affiliated with him HAD to have known. The whole thing is rotten.
I was listening to the latest plaidcast today (Plaid Horse podcast) and they were talking about the unfortunate timing of putting him on the cover just before the electrical spurs came out. Which, ok, sure, but even before this there have been serious doubts about him as a horseman, no?
The magazine does say they’re a ‘horse show magazine’ (they don’t say they’re a horsemanship magazine) so I guess that’s on me for thinking they would take that into more consideration.
I was starting to get some respect for the Plaid Horse but, bw this and the Devin Ryan article, any new respect is now gone.
I think all of this just underlines, once again, that much of the H/J world is insular and insulated from the rest of society. There are many times I’ve read something from Plaid Horse or some of the other online publications and been mildly/extremely appalled at the lack of understanding of the world outside the bubble.
ETA: One small sidenote: earlier in the thread someone was saying that there isn’t ever a good reason for spur rubs. I agree with this in most cases, but I have owned a thin-skinned grey and bay, and a friend had one, too. All three of these horses could and would get rubs from ANYTHING, including a spurless boot, especially in hot weather. My friend has tiny little legs and one of her boots gave her mare terrible rubs out of the blue one day for no apparent reason. My grey got rubs if anything touched him; I had sheepskin-lined everything (halter, bridle, boots), and he would still get rubs. I’m not trying to explain away riders who clearly are spurring too much, but some of the really thin-skinned horses can get rubs very easily.
I noticed the Plaid Horse article was written by his PR rep.
God the mental damage done to these horses is unforgivable and breaks my heart. I had a super duper TB (been very successful in his day). Hottish to ride but very sweet.
I was leading him down from my arena and he heard an electric bug zapper go off on the patio - he was GONE. Never seen anything like it - not a jump and a spook but utter terror. Broke the bridle and bit if I recall. Left huge marks on the ground where he dug in with his shoes and GONE to the very back of the 30 acre property. By the time I fetched a halter and lead shank and ran out to him he was lathered heat to foot and shaking like a leaf. Took ages to calm down and dry him out. He reacted to even the sound of velcro boots and gloves being opened for a few weeks after that bug zapper. He had NOT forgotten about being zapped.
I then found out about the zapping that jockeys use as they break from the gate. I had no idea at all. It sickens me to my very soul. Someone who does that to an animal should never be allowed near any animal ever again.
