Are you going to check every last corner of every last stall in every last barn before you decide it’s lights out because you want to leave? If not, you are potentially putting someone in a dangerous position. But you’re probably ok with that I guess. Lights out when you think they should be out is the ultimate importance.

Perish the thought that someone may be coming back to that barn shortly to finish up for the day - or that someone is actually in a stall tending to a horse’s legs or whatever. Appointing oneself the lights monitor for a venue is a bit… odd and inappropriate. Just based on my experiences sleeping in tack stalls at assorted National Shows and often tending to horses late in the evening… before the actual lights out as per the schedule.

(Also, if my horse finished two buckets of water overnight, but someone else refilled them without my knowledge, I might be incorrectly concerned that the horse was dehydrated.)

This is the biggest reason to not water random horses you are not associated with.

I need to know if my horse is not drinking. A random unknown person watering and not saying something can lead to lots of panic about a horse not drinking enough.

The poster above who is turning off barn lights while she does night check, literally said she checks the barn/aisle for people before turning off lights. I mean at some point the lights have to go off, right? There’s really no other way to do it.

Yeah, except if there are set hours, “lights out time,” why? The possibility of missing someone in the dark is real. The danger of the horses having lights on for another 1/2 hour until official light out time is, um, zero.

People in stabling can be very easy to miss. Three of us walked past the first stall in the barn door yesterday and said hello to the horse and carried on. I happened to turn around and only then saw part of the owner behind the horse who was standing on an angle and realized all three of us had been inadvertently rude. If it had been a quick check at night - breeze through from one end to the other - that person would have been missed.

The other week I got caught in a power outage while crouched in a tight space right up against a hind leg. That was no fun at home. Having that happen at a show because someone was worried about an extra 15 minutes of lights out time? I’d be right pissed.

If/when you ever move up to rated competition you will find that the people showing there do not need you to decide who can “be trusted” by you to follow the rules. There are many, many, people, who show at rated shows who abide by the rules and have done so for decades.

Exactly - that would include me, every trainer I have worked with in assorted disciplines and breeds and friends and associates as well. For decades.

It’s not always about spinning the dial all the way round to positive. Many times it’s about reducing the negative.

Either way though, that ship sailed. I was about to say it sailed when he didn’t immediately issue a statement, but given the multiple incidents over multiple years thing, I’m going to say that ship never even got built.

I agree. What is there to say when multiple videos and pictures are worth thousands of words each? No manner of statement or apology could condone or justify this behaviour.

I do wonder if his owner(s) will keep their horses with him now that he’s suspended. Insane that he even has horses or owner(s) that support him after the videos came out.

It causes hypersensitivity, especially when used with topicals intended to exacerbate sensitivity. If a horse is more afraid of pain from knocking a poll, that’s a performance advantage gained through the horse’s physical suffering.

this rider who used to work for Denny Emerson is now teaching kids in the Tampa area and seemingly frustrated where her riding career went. She took it out on that pony which was for sale for a while in the Ocala area but it was always stopping XC. Now you know why, it had a stifle issue.
