I would hope Rob Burke would stop the grant going to him if he was informed…surely
Have you seen them? Shouldn’t they be shared as well? Maybe not here, but on some of the other social media places where pictures and video are already out there?
Wasn’t some of the pushback the ever so common poor wording of what their actual power was in relationship to what things?
According to the one article, one of the people who reported in May said that neither of the videos released are from among the ones submitted. They also stated they thought it better to submit to the authorities and not release to SM. They are currently standing by that stance I suppose in hopes that the orgs will do something. Presumably they could be released at any time but the people who submitted them wish to follow the reporting process.
I could swear I watched a short version of the horse getting yanked in the mouth then the video ended. Then later I saw the version where yes he follows the yanking with a nasty spanking to the right side of the horses head.
At the bottom of the COTH article:
McConnon said Monday afternoon that he’d just returned home from England and would “be in touch as soon as I can with a statement.”
He does hit the horse twice in the right side of its head after landing. I thought he was hitting with a crop b/c you can clearly see a straight object between his hand and the horses head.
I slowed the replay down to 0.5 and zoomed in. I cannot tell if it is a crop or if the rein is taught with the poor horse throwing its head up and away. This is a screenshot of the 2nd blow to the horses head and face. He’s not just yanking, though. He pulls back his right arm twice and strikes the horse.
That’s strange. His daddy said he was still in the UK. Sounds like there is a big communication deficiency between son and dad.
There was some pushback over the wording (from people who hadn’t really read the rule closely, IMO) but also plenty of people resenting the idea that they could be held accountable for what they do on their own property. Which, of course, is where the worst abuse occurs. From the OP of that linked thread: “The bottom line here is that the USEF can make all the rules they want, but they have NO JURISDICTION to adjudicate anything that happens on private property.”
I think people forget that, in a big sense, if they want to, they can.
They aren’t the government and they aren’t depriving anyone of a fundamental right. They are an NGO and they are saying you don’t meet the requirements to join/remain part of their org.
People think of jurisdiction as the reach of law enforcement and the judiciary (correct) but used colloquially, it can also mean the ‘reach’ of an organisation. They absolutely can deny you membership for violating standards that, in the absence of the membership situation, would not get you in legal trouble. I.e., you can violate org/club rules/standards without violating a law. And if they can prove you violated those standards (e.g., through clear and authentic photographic proof, witness statements, etc.), they can deny you membership.
It doesn’t matter where that violation happened, private property or not. They needn’t come on your property. You don’t enjoy a right to be a member of a club; you must satisfy requirements to be a member and maintain those throughout your membership.
My read of the Code of Conduct is that they already have this reach if they choose to exercise it.
I really admire they tried to follow the process and do the right thing. I am so very disappointed in TPTB who are taking so long to do the right thing (at least how it seems to me).
Yes, shows very starkly that following the rules and NOT starting a huge SM frenzy = no action at all, the person in question supported, promoted, and sent overseas to represent the org and the nation.
Going with SM first = action (CD, for example; in this case, at least the orgs are making statements whereas they had never responded to the rule followers since May).
Fully agreed. I support the rule change and said as much on at least one of the threads where it was discussed. I think the code of conduct probably wasn’t written with that purpose in mind and may leave USEF more vulnerable to a lawsuit than they’d prefer, while the actual rule is more definitive. Either way it doesn’t excuse how long it’s taken them to act, but I do think they’re in a lose-lose situation to some extent.
I think he strikes the horse with the rein itself as the thing he’s using to hit the horse in the side of the head. It’s taut bc the poor horse is frantically reacting and pulling away.
I think the horse did the best it could over the jump given how far behind the motion AM was, giving zero release over the fence, and landing on the horses back and with his hands practically in his crotch. I don’t know what more the poor horse could have done given the circumstances.
Even if you give USEF and FEI the benefit of the doubt and say they received the initial reports and associated documentation in mid-May… that’s 115 days. Inexcusable.
Crypto Aero has removed Andrew from their sponsored riders page (he was on it yesterday). They have also deleted the Facebook post where they were called out for their initial response.
The line you show in the screen shot was what I thought was a whip. But your argument that it might be the rein is possible too. Thanks for taking the time to look at this more closely and share the screenshot.
That CryptoAero lady being a fruitbat is nothing new. Do a search on this forum and you will see.
The best way to see for yourself is to pull up that video preferably on a laptop or tablet. Set the playback to 0.75 or 0.5. Hit play and do max zoom in. The 0.75 is what made me think I see more clearly that he’s pulling his arm away and then using the taut rein to hit the horse in the face. I had thought it was a crop, too.
What a fast about face for the tough guy who was threatening someone with accusations of blackmail for her polite request that they drop AM. I hope they are embarrassed at the very least.
Based on that message alone I would never purchase a single thing from them. That was unhinged.
