Andrew McConnon horse abuse

Where is the Andrew video on this YouTube clip?

There isn’t one!! This is a bit of a deflection to another rider.

Ah.

No, but it shows he isn’t a man of his word also.

this rider who used to work for Denny Emerson is now teaching kids in the Tampa area and seemingly frustrated where her riding career went. She took it out on that pony which was for sale for a while in the Ocala area but it was always stopping XC. Now you know why, it had a stifle issue.

Andrew was out schooling one horse cross country at a public schooling venue today, all by himself, no groundsperson, and was back to riding like an asshole (last time I saw him out a couple of months ago, he was on his best behavior and was basically unrecognizable). I didn’t see any major fights or the horse flying sideways, but it was his usual rough and ugly riding, very heavy handed.

Interesting. Was this at CHP?

Probably not. CHP only does schooling days before each War Horse event. I think CHP has banned him. it was probably one of the local barns who have cross country fences.

[Edit] I hate to hear he is riding. Thug.

Sounds like more places need to ban him like CHP (allegedly - I just read it above and, if it’s true, applaud CHP). If this stuff is really going to be eradicated to save the sport, people have to stop being polite to abusers.

There’s a guy in my tiny community who ripped off a nice person (while they were going through cancer treatment, no less) and whenever I see him he tries the old, ‘Hi, how are you?’ And every damn time I say: you know how I am. Why did you do that? Why are you not cooperating with the police to resolve it?

Once he tried to say I was harassing him by asking about it whenever he engages me and I said, nope, it’s just not my job to make you feel comfortable in social situations after what you did knowing you are doing nothing to fix it. Fix it and we’re good, I’ll stop asking. But you don’t get to do what you did (and, in this case, what Andrew McConnon did) and then also get to go about your merry way doing your thing and everyone just acting like you’re a decent member of the community.

Not on my watch, anyway.

if you are comfortable and see this again, not just you but anyone, whip out your camera and get footage.

It’s interesting to me, because I watched Andrew warm up horses and ride at CHP for basically every single show for 4 years, and I had heard about his behavior from before going to the UK. So what I would see, day in and day out in the warm up ring was a rider who rode all his horses with lightness and tact, and gave what I felt was one of the most considerate warmups in the ring.

I witnessed other BN riders put their horses in hyperflexation, or boss them around, but never Andrew and believe me - I watched for it because I had heard from before.

I think it just goes to show how easily people can display two nature’s when they want to. Because while I believe Allie and the evidence wholeheartedly, I can honestly say in the 4 years I spent there, being heavily involved in the park, and having my horses within hacking distance of his farm - i didn’t see it once.

I’ve seen the rider you describe exactly one time, pretty shortly after all the allegations were made public
I genuinely nearly didn’t recognize him as a rider then, and was shocked at how tactful and quiet he was clearly capable of being if he wanted to, so it goes both ways I guess. I work for a farm that has a xc course available for use of the public, and saw him ride regularly over the course of two or three years. The first time I ever saw him after I started working at the farm, I specifically asked who he was because his riding style was so off-putting to me and I would never want a horse of mine under him nor would I recommend him to anyone I knew. Not an eventer myself, nor a local to the area, I’d never even heard his name before and had no idea who he was. Most of what I saw wouldn’t cross the line into “clear abuse that would garner a universal condemnation if caught on film”, but it was consistently unnecessarily rough and extremely heavy handed, and there were many times he would seem to pick a fight over something I couldn’t even identify and yank on the horse’s face as it went flying sideways (and now I know why flying sideways was their go to move). Well more than enough for me to assume he did much worse when fully in private. Short of actually chasing him around expansive cross country course and getting close enough at the right times, there was no real way for me to get video, certainly not surreptitiously.

These riders know what they are doing is wrong. That is why you will see them change their behavior in public and be a better rider. Often times though the mask slips and the uncontrollable anger management issues slip through.

Looks like at least two of his big horses have now moved over to Tamie Smith. She has Ferrie’s Cello and D’Luxe Steel entered in the OP at Twin Rivers this weekend.

That is great news!

According to current records that leaves:
Wakita 54 (the 5* mare) - lists Andrew as the owner
Connery Cooper - lists Jeanne Shigo (who was also the listed owner of Ferries Cello and D’Luxe Steele). It would be awesome if Tamie has ownership or at least new owners that wouldn’t leave horses with an abusive trainer for so long. Despicable

FVF Top Gun is with Ema Klugman and now shows FVF Top Gun, LLC as the owner.

Hoping beyond hope that there are no more horses in his “program”
