Anhidrosis... here we go again :(

My horse has been totally off the Platinum Refresh for a few weeks, but I did purchase some Let M Sweat, which has similar ingredients and a 1 oz/day serving size (half of the Refresh). A 5# tub is an 80 day supply, so it’s also much more economical (although the shipping cost was quite high).

For comparison, a 30 day supply of the Refresh was $115 (including shipping), while160 days of LMS was $148 (including shipping). Shipping the LMS was expensive enough that I decided to purchase a second tub, as that added only a few dollars more shipping cost; can always use it next year.

I’ll spend the money if something works but, while Refresh did seem effective, my not particularly picky eater wasn’t enthused about an extra 2 oz daily of an apparently yucky powdered supplement, considering that his meals are too small to hide it (even when fed at 1oz per meal twice daily). Refresh is too costly to waste. He has no problem eating the ounce of LMS in a single serving and the best part is that a few weeks in, he’s sweating better than ever (and without getting any Guinness). Think I’ve found a winner.

Much to my surprise, my mare was sweaty on her neck, chest, and shoulders on Saturday when I pulled her flysheet, and got a bit sweaty on our usual 2-ish miles handwalk. It was terribly humid and in the 80s. I haven’t seen her sweat like this in about 2 years. (And yes, she is healthy.)

Not a lot of changes recently, except I did start adding plain salt to her diet. She is on LetMSweat, which has a lot of salt in it, so only half a tablespoon a plain salt twice a day. The is working better than OneAC did, and is more economical.

Have you guys seen Equine Mega Sweat? They sure do advertise with confidence.

Yes! I suppose good 03 and vit e supps could be used as a DIY substitute.

Thanks for the link. They have an interesting theory of what’s behind anhidrosis.

I just posted about my success with the product. Their hypothesis about the cause of it, is interesting. I’d love there to be more studies so we can stop with the trial and error and get a bit of science behind it.

It’s interesting to me that the Omega 3/Omega 6 balance is sooooo off. I’ve been told to look for products where Omega 3 is higher than Omega 6. Hm.

Good catch reading the label. I skimmed over it presuming it would have higher O3s since it’s marketed for anti inflammatory use

They have a response on their website as to why. Not sure about anything other than my horse sweat normally within 72 hours and has continued to do so.

I bought my horse in 2019 knowing he had anhidrosis, but it was well controlled with OneAC. All hell broke loose last year when he developed severe equine asthma (heaves) and basically stopped sweating. Long story short, he used to eat absolutely anything. During treatment for heaves last year, he became extremely picky and started refusing all supplements. I tried putting them in alfalfa pellets, beet pulp, grain mash. Nothing worked. A friend gave me a partial bag of Hallway Handimash to try as a last ditch effort. When I tell you my horse will eat ANYTHING in this mash, I truly mean it. Now all of his supplements go in with about a cup of it each morning. The best part is it only needs to soak for 5 min. He always refused beer as well, but now I just mix a beer in some of the mash on really hot days instead of water and he licks it right up. Maybe worth a try for some of you also having issues getting your horse to eat supplements. Another bonus, Chewy carries it and their customer service is amazing. Interestingly enough, my horse has been off all meds for heaves since September 2023. I had a suspicion that he had an intolerance to fiber footing based on the timeline of how his symptoms developed. Moved him to a facility with a sand arena last September and he’s been fine ever since. Who knew that could be a thing? Not me! Anyway, dropping a link for the handimash below. SweatWerks helped my guy some last year, but wasn’t doing the trick this year. He’s back on ONEAC after taking a year off from it and seems to be doing pretty well so far. :crossed_fingers:
