Animal Communicator?
Fine to believe what anyone wants to believe, but when asking others for opinions, as here, well, there will be all kind of those offered and, we should think, every one valid on their own.
The OP asked:

Has anyone ever gotten someone to communicate with their horse? If so, do share your experience. What beans did your horse spill?

She wasn’t asking for opinions about the validity of animal communicators. She was asking people who have tried it to share their experiences.

All opinions are valid, but are they all relevant?

As the thread ran it’s course, yes, other became relevant to the topic “animal communicator” in the title.
Especially those that had negative experiences, that were directly not excluded in it.

Eh, again, I have FACTS, you guys just don’t buy it. Fine, it has benefited me and my horse, doesn’t need to be something you do.

Its not exactly like “faith” in religion in the sense I did get specific measurable answers to specific questions. I was able to match to evidence, facts, and real life.

I was able to fill in several missing pieces I have always wondered about, but as a educated horse person I was on track with things. Most of us will do the right thing if we get enough help- vets, farriers, etc.

Its just interesting to go that step beyond what the trainers and vets can “see”. that is where I really appreciate the info.

No, its not going to change my courses I have a good idea of my horse regardless.

try it, gasp you might actually have FUN and enjoy yourself. Don’t get toooo crazy now. LOL

Poo poo it all you want but its fascinating.

It’s interesting to hear preferences that the horse has, and why they have certain behaviors. Its not going to be anything earth shattering for 90% of the time, but its that extra step that is very informative.

OP,

I actually ~tried~ an animal communicator once, but not for my horse. This was long before I got my mare. It was for a dog that I was having really serious issues with, and who was later diagnosed with rage syndrome. I was somewhat desperate at the time.

While I was on the phone with the communicator about the dog, the cat came to the door and sat down and started staring at me. I didn’t really notice this until out of the blue, the communicator said “DON’T GET ANOTHER CAT!”

Cat?? We were talking about the dog. I hadn’t told the communicator I EVEN HAD a cat. Then I looked and saw her sitting there, staring at me.

The cat had aparantly told her that she didn’t want another cat in the house with her. The house was sort of all over the place with the issues surrounding the dog, and the cat thought that another cat would make it worse, not better.

This would probably not mean much, and could have come from anything, except that about a week before, I was in the office at home and the house was empty except for me and the cat. I had asked the cat: “Do you want a friend? Do you need an ally, someone who would be on your side against the dog?”

Aparantly, the answer was no.

And–

In response to this thread, I looked up Lydia Hiby on her website and I bought a used copy of her book on sale, and while I was reading the part on dogs, my little fuzzy lap-size dog Maddie, who is generally very independent, climbed up and sat with me. But the instant I reached the “Cats” chapter, she was gone! LOL

And–

I might call Hiby after my mare’s “join the family day” party on Halloween. So I can ask what she thought about the party. I’ve got all the non-horsy family coming! I have plans, but won’t say anything more…

According to the website, Hiby only charges $40 for 15 minutes. It might be fun!

I know an excellent trainer and teacher, wonderful person. She volunteered to me one day that my (difficult) mare had been talking to her, and she wanted to give me some information about her. Apparently in a past life she had been a little girl abandoned by her parents. She passed on suggestions for managing the mare based on this info- which I admit I tried (any port in a storm) No help. This lovely woman also suggested that a mutual acquaintance who was in hospital with a psychotic illness after using crystal meth had actually been possessed by evil spirits. Ummm- I GUESS you could call crystal meth an evil spirit .
A different friend used a phone animal communicator who said her horse had told her he had a gut ache and that this specific (trade name) supplement would be the only thing that helped.
My experiences, for what they are worth. There may be some genuine ACs out there but I am a sceptic. The trainer mentioned above certainly believed she was communicating, but there are all sorts of self delusion. She was still a great trainer!

there should be a “rate my AC pro” website. Not joking, we need to know the crazies…and there are plenty.

There were some funny AC stories here in the past. The one that stands out was the poster who said she gave no info to the AC and the AC proceeeded to spew nonsense.

For example- she was tolds her horse had a white sock. When she assured the AC the horse did not have a white sock- the AC said…

wait for it…

the horse WANTED a white sock

I see a way to make my fortune!!

There was an AC with a Blogtalk radio show going for a while, who took callers. The people would post pictures of their animals on FB, and then call the show and hope to get a very short reading, about 1 question each animal. I listened pretty much as something to have in the background while I was working.

After a while, I realized that she spent a lot more time talking to the people than the animals, and had a set thing that she would suggest VERY Often, such as a certain type/brand of food, or chiro.

I decided she was pretty much a “cold reader” but I kept on listening, and still listen to the old shows sometimes-they’re still available.

But she stopped doing the show almost immediatelywhen she was pranked by Howard Stern on on HIS show! They set her up with a fake animal, and she fell for it.

I think there are probably real ones out there. I can’t explain the cat thing any other way. But the charlitans are a dime a dozen.

I tried a communicator about 10 years ago, and I may be wrong but I Think there was an article about him in the Chronicle back then. My horse has an old, healed injury but I mainly wanted to know if my riding him hurt. Before I could get to that the man said (over the phone) “He wants you to get off your right seat bone.” As it happens my right leg is longer and it’s very hard for me to sit evenly, and since I’d stopped showing and training, and only hacked any more I didnt think it mattered that much, and had been sitting on my right seat bone for Years! He also said my horse wanted me to use my black saddle. I Had an old dark, dark brown Prix de Saute but had used the light chestnut leather Stubben for years, because it was more of an armchair for adventurous trails. None of this did I mention to the man. I wish I could remember his name.

I will admit to trying one once, and had a similar experience. She said one of my horses didn’t like the Paint horse. I said there was no Paint? She hesitated and said, something with a lot of white? maybe tall socks? Nope. He was turned out with my plain jane mare, bay with a smudge of a star, and fence mates with another plain bay with IIRC a biggish star and a chestnut gelding with a blaze and IIRC two anklets. It was a boring field of TBs, not a spot on the property even out of his eyesight at the other barn.

I do believe that some people have this gift and recently ran across a problem that I thought an AC could help with. I read the threads on this forum and contacted an AC with the initials LH. She’s pretty well known and had good reviews.

Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t good. She didn’t get anything right and talked a lot about herself and what supplements I should use during the session. I hoped for a thread of insight but got absolutely nothing. She asked about whether my trainer rode him or was it me (he’s not started under saddle yet and I’m the trainer). When I told her that, she backtracked and said “He says you are a professional”. She also missed a BIG injury that I’m dealing with during her “body scan”. I asked about it and she said he’s ok. He’s not.

Pretty disappointing but I’m not a disbeliever in ACs. I really do think some people have that gift. I just haven’t found them yet.

This thread has been very entertaining. I’m more on the skeptical side but I enjoyed the stories both good and bad nonetheless. Maybe there are some good ACs out there, but I’d bet there are also talented charlatans. Still, if the price was right and the opportunity presented itself, I’d get a reading of my critters just for funsies. I’ve had my palm read and had my hand writing analyzes (both just for fun when opportunity presented itself) and the responses were what I expected- either very vague and generic or wildly off base. I’m still waiting to meet that tall dark handsome stranger…hey does that mean I’m gonna get a Friesian someday? :joy:

I just did my first session because it was a family friend (and offered for free!), and i have to say I was impressed.

There were some minor details that were borderline off, but there were a lot of things that checked out and the communicator hd no way of knowing. The horse spoke about how her saddle fit is now better and more comfortable (bought her a thinline pad recently), how she is healing but not completely there yet (front suspensory) and how she is done with competing and wants to be a hobby horse in light work (I bought her to compete but every time we get into serious work and ready for shows something happens). She also spoke about how she doesn’t like my husband riding her because it reminds her of a jockey who used to be mean to her (her last racing owner likely).

I came in skeptical and looking for entertainment to now thinking that if I ever buy a horse again I’m gonna have her communicate with that animal before… just in case

This is very new to me because AC is not a thing yet here in Italy. I’m not an AC (and I would love to be, that would made my life so easier lol) but I’ve had 3 weird experiences.

First with a vet (certified vet but with alternative approach to medicine) I called because I was desperate about Ciri’s COPD. He gave me a cure (herbs) and one night the horse was having a really hard time breathing. I called the vet asking if I could give him a Dex shot, he told me to go away and go back to the horse half and hour later and call him. I was very skeptical but I did it and half and hour later Ciri was completely fine (I have to add that this vet lives about 300 km away from us and didn’t know nobody in our area). I called the vet and he said that he was happy for the horse and that he took care of him. Once he came to visit Ciri I rushed to the barn without having lunch because I was late, when I arrived he told me that not eating is not good and to go and eat something (just loooking at me). My friend who was with me presented herself and while shaking her hand he told her that she was sufferimg from back pain because of a motorbike accident occurred some years before…I didn’t even know she had an accident

Second case: my first horse was colicking, I spent the whole day with him and the vet and I went home while he was medicated (5 minutes away from the barn) just to pick up warmer clothes for the night and feed my dog. While I was at home I literally felt him dying. This memory still gives me goosebumps. I rushed to the barn and he was dead in his stall.

Third time was with my actual horse Paco. I bought him from a girl who boarded him at a trainer’s barn. Very rough cowboy type of trainer, with questionable methods. My horse is very sensitive and you could see he was really shut down and scared when he was at that barn (I bought him mainly because I felt sorry for him). Paco was born at home from her mare but I believe she made some mistakes in raising him and then she found herself with a smart and bossy teenager so she brought him to fix and train from this guy. Fast forward some years, some issues solved and much work done I can say now Paco trusts me (just me anyway). I was just hanging with him in his paddock, he came near me and I saw what I think was a flashback seen from his perspective. He was in a round pen/small arena and the guy was smacking him badly from the ground (I can tell you how the guy was dressed, what was the weather like, it was like watching a movie). I could feel he was confused and scared and he was reaching for his owner who was watching all this form outside the fence and didn’t do anything (she probably believed the guy was doing the right thing ). I felt Paco’s heart breaking. I found myself sobbing because I was feeling what he felt and it was horrible, I can’t describe the feeling of helplessness, sadness and betrayal. I swore him that nothing like that will never happen again until I’m alive

I do believe people with a special connection to an animal, usually their own, can communicate in ways that are hard to understand. Very plausible. I believe your stories, @cilla1

However, I have very little respect for people that charge money claiming to be psychics. The human types stalk people with lost children. No. That’s sick.
