Animalintex?

Can Animalintex be used on humans t reduce swelling from drama? It state on the package for horses and dogs. Not recommended for cats. It doesn’t say anything but humans.

I don’t see why it couldn’t, it’s basically just epsom salts-- but I would think ice would be better.

I have been using ice several times but it is my hand that is involved and I make a mess with the ice melting, and also the ice doesn’t last very long. I thought bandaging the hand with the Animalintex will allow me to carry on with my usual chores.

In my experience Animalintex draws out plus by reverse osmosis. It’s not Epsom salts, its (let me go Google). I use it on hoof abscesses but I couldn’t see using it on a sprain or bruise. Might work on an infection but I don’t think it’s sterile for wounds.

Edited to add: the main ingredient is tragacanth.

I have the wound which is at the bottom of my middle finger covered with antibiotic ointment and a bandaid. The back of my hand is now swollen which is what I wanted to use the Animalintex for.

Also was wondering about swimming. It is very hot here today and this will be my last chance this year. It is my own pool and no one else has been in it. My worry is flesh eating disease (Necroticing Faciitis? sp.which SO ended up with from a small wound on his hand while in the shower. He almost lost his arm over this.

I am a bit worried as it is a holiday weekend and I am alone.

If you are worried that you have something that serious please go to Urgent Care or such.

I have used animalintex for dirty cuts on myself, but if the swelling is travelling up your hand you really should go get it looked at for antibiotics

Urgent care and Emergency one year ago was a 12 hourhnightmare. Can’t do it. There seems to be some improvement some wrinkles have returned in my hand. I will keep a close eye on it.

Very little pain, just some tightness at the joint.

Go get abx today. Swelling on the back of your hand from a cut at the base of your middle finger sounds a bit concerning.

As to Animalintex for people - yep, all the time. I keep some at home for myself for anything I think might be a risk for getting infected (I use it moistened) or needs to be drawn out, for instance a sliver that breaks off while extracting it.

I went to emergency after stepping on a rusty nail … after an hour long Epsom salt soak and bandaging with Animalintex. Once I told the nurse what I had done, she didn’t even want me to bother unwrapping it for her to look at. I did have to take all the abx and antifungals though because, of course, I had been wearing rubber boots at the time.

I should add that the dog really chomped down on bone and his tooth caught the skin at the bottom of the finger, quite deep but only 1/2 inch long.

It wasn’t his fault, we were playing tug of war with his chewybone. He went to get it but my finger was in the way as he bit down hard.

He was very sorry when he heard my scream.

This is a dog bite? Even though it was an accident – you should have seen a doctor and gotten antibiotics immediately.

I have heard dog and cat bites are notorious for infection.

Go to the hospital now. Animal bites are bad. You’ve got a cellulitis situation brewing up which is not good. And no, don’t go swimming.

If you have a dog bite wound you should be at the urgent care, not pondering a swim. At least switch to hot water soaks, not ice.

I’m with everyone else - don’t p**s around with this.

I’ve had cellulitis once, and DH has had it twice. All 3 resulted in a 3 to 4 day hospital stay. In two cases, we got admitted because we waited too long. We were told, with DH,that had we waited 12 hours more, he could have gone septic.

Hospital or urgent care NOW if you haven’t. Animal bites are threatening to life and limb - literally. It’s SO easy to go septic and lose your hand.

Go go go, this isn’t something to slap some (actually almost useless and ineffective) Neosporin on. Or anything in the barn cabinet.

Medical care. ASAP. Even if it looks like it’s gotten slightly better.

Yikes. There are some things you just don’t eff around with, and infected animal bites are one of those things. You don’t need a poultice–you need antibiotics. Post haste.

Draw a line at the edge of the red so you (and the doctor) can see how quickly it’s advancing, and be seen. If not tonight, first thing tomorrow.

OK, didn’t come back to Coth yesterday. I had put antibiotic ointment on and bandage. Didn’t swim yesterday, just sat in the stairs and splashed water on myself.

Kept a close eye on things and swelling slowly subsided. This morning back of the hand is back to normal, finger still a little swollen. Most of the pain is gone and wound looks very clean. Put on more ointment and new bandage this morning.

The nearest Urgent Care is 1/2 hour away, I have animals at home and always a great worry. I would have gone at the first sign of getting worse.

I do appreciate everyone’s concern.

I dread hospitals and urgent care centers have spent many, many hours there with SO and once for myself. That one was urgent and a nightmare.

@Cat_Tap Just seeing this & hoping you heeded your COTH Aunties’ & went to Urgent Care.
They shouldn’t keep you waiting if infection is suspected. Especially from a dog bite.

No, I didn’t go.
