Another arena question... Who pulls an arena drag with a UTV?

I’m ready to purchase an Arena Rascal, but I wanted to ask for COTH wisdom before I actually do it. Does anyone use a UTV for pulling an arena drag, and are you happy with that set-up? I have a Polaris 800, and ABI is assuring me that it won’t be a problem. What I’m actually worried about is being able to keep a consistent speed while dragging and that I’ll wish I had purchased something bigger to use with the tractor.

I currently drag my indoor with a 50HP Kubota and a york rake. It has worked well enough, but is a pain to hook up, the tractor is almost too big for my small indoor, the manure spreader is always attached to it, and I’m paranoid about hitting the walls with the bucket. This all means I don’t drag the ring as much as I would like to. I’m also (hopefully) installing an outdoor this fall or next spring.

I drag a 150X250 class I sand arena with a Kubota RTV900 and a Parma drag with the tongue attachment. Easy to hook up, easy to maneuver, and with a hydraulic cylinder, easy to raise and lower. I would never go back to a tractor.
This is one of the heaviest UTVs made and it is well suited to the job. In low range it is easy to keep consistent speed. With a rangy gas engine on a belt drive transmission, even with 800cc, I don’t know. It is a heavy load when pulling in damp or hardened conditions.

we drag our rings (1 indoor, 1 outdoor) with Kubota diesel ATV. easy to maneuver.

Polaris Ranger 700 here, handles dragging just fine.

Our BO uses an ATV too. I’m not sure what model but it’s a bigger one w/ the area in the back to haul things. She FLIES on that thing, even w/ the drag.

Thanks, all! I can always use the tractor/rake as a back-up in the outdoor if it gets too packed or we get a heavy rain. Thanks for pointing that out, Buford.

Polaris or
Kawasaki Mule whichever is closest ~ both handle the job efficiently.

I exclusively use our Polaris Ranger now. Tractor/bucket maneuvering is way too difficult! I use a regular drag. I do notice when the sand is wet, works it a little harder but it can handle it with no issues.

what kind of drag/harrow do you all use?

I use an arena rascal behind my UTV. The only thing we don’t like about it is we can’t see it. Hubby prefers to use an ATV when possible so that it is easily visible to adjust height, depth, etc.

Just make sure you are in LOW range or you will cause premature aging/failure to the drive belt.

I have a 10’ drag harrow that i use in the arenas when i don’t have enough time to properly work it with tractor/3pt arena rake. The drag harrow is very heavy, i’ve towed it with an old 250cc (2wheel drive) ATV, a newer 400cc polaris 400cc ATV, and a 570cc polaris ranger. No issues with any of the tow vehicles just make sure to keep in low range.
