Ooh, a one puppy litter.
That’s so hard! I know we have to plan for that sort of thing but what a bummer for everyone. :no:
I’m not sure what I’ll do; we had two breedings planned, each of which I would have been happy to take a puppy - one I really wanted, one I “also” wanted (if I were insane to have that many dogs)…and now both bitches are not being bred (one was an emergency spay which is heartbreaking for her breeders, the other something else that we’re still investigating…but not looking good for me.
)
I never imagined being in this position. :no: I’m probably too choosy but I had the ability to be so…not anymore.
Totally different question Houndhill - but do you use hypo-mating software? I need to start getting up to speed on this because I might have to make the choices now, rather than rely on breeders that I trusted enough to do it for me.[/QUOTE]
Well, one puppy beats none! I have a three week old singleton now, a C-section puppy from a surgical frozen semen implant. She is precious in more ways than one!
I don’t think there is such a thing as being too choosy when it comes to accepting bitches for your stud dog! Good for you, you will not regret it.
I don’t even know what hypo-mating software is!
I’ll take a guess that it is pedigree software? If that is what you are talking about, I pay an annual fee to subscribe to a website that has all the IW pedigrees (most of them anyway in the US Canada, and Europe, UK, etc.) and Inbreeding Coeffiecients calculated to 10 generations. You can generate hypothetical breedings, and it will also spit out “common ancestors” for ten generations. It will also tell you all the offspring that dog has had, bred to which mates, etc. It is invaluable to me, so handy. I imagine other breeds have such a thing?
