Fad, fashion or is it that buggy?
I was wondering about them, too.
I thought that they are not legal in dressage, but saw several horses wearing them.
My theory is they are mainly used to keep ear plugs in place.
ear plugs are illegal; fly nets are not. Some of my friends swear by them, saying they cut down just enough noise to help their spooky boys concentrate. Some of the ears are made of very substantial fabric. Lots of them at Aachen this year, also.

Was thinking along the same lines- I feel this may be why we see more hoods in racing. Just a bit of extra padding around the ears probably helps to keep things that little bit quiet.
Team GB could have done with them!!
When i was watching the nbc feed of the dressage they showed some horses getting checked after the test - ear nets off and a hand went up there in there to check - i presume it was to check for ear plugs.
I just want to know what brand they are all wearing
And I use fly nets on my big boy. He is very sensitive to flies they keep nasty stuff out of his ears…
I’ve used fly nets before on other horses, but with this guy they have taken my bridle (properly adjusted) off twice! I just use fly wipes for his ears and face now, leave the cute adorable fly net back in the tack room.

Exactly. I expect to see a lot of the dressage and show jump horses wearing them too.

Jumpers are allowed to wear ear plugs (thank god for me!)
De La Coeur makes bonnets with soundproof ears! (which are still legal but maybe not for long.?!?De La Coeur
