Another flakey fashion question: bolero hat helmets

I would never put my foot in a stirrup without a helmet, unless it was on a saddle rack and even then, I might think twice. That being said, I am moving over the western dressage with a baroque horse and am looking for a suitable attire for competition. I know I can of course just ride in a helmet with no adornment, but would like to keep the bolero style. Does anyone have any experience getting a bolero style hat helmet cover? If so, I would love to see pictures.

Have you looked on Etsy? There are several sellers there who customize western hat brims to fit English safety helmets. I think you’ll be able to get the bolero style brim. It’s the flatter crown that will be a challenge simply because it has to incorporate the underlying curved shape of the helmet. I’m not sure how that would be accomplished without having a tall, wide crown which negates the look of the bolero hat.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just go with a matte finish, simple, black helmet. I think that would be less distracting than a creation that looks odd. But I’m sure you already know that!

Yes, I have thought of just doing that. I really appreciate your reply.

Oh, my pleasure! Discussing fun topics like putting together an outfit is often a fun diversion.

Exactly. I can’t ride for a few weeks due to a surgery so this is how I am spending my time.
