Another mystery coat pattern

What would you call this? Doesn’t look like a usual pinto pattern to me, but ??? Screen shots from an equitation round at Capital Challenge this morning. Got me curious as soon as he walked in the ring.

(He’s gorgeous.)

Could be vitilgo? What’s the pedigree?

Tovero, a darker mixture of tobiano and overo?

At first glance it looks like Tobiano with Frame. Tobi likes to make 4 white legs, but Frame likes dark legs, so you can see the “fight” there. But I need to think on this some more, it looks a bit wrong for even a minimal Tobi, and it’s definitely not just Frame, maybe even not Frame.

Vitiligo usually starts on a horses face, but it could be.

Even breed might be handy, since it could possibly eliminate some known white patterns.

Not very likely to be vitiligo with this type of pattern.

We really need a name LOL

True, it’s more common to start on the face but I have also seen it start on the chest first.

It doesn’t “look” like the typical presentation of tobiano or frame, but horses - they keep us guessing.

Maybe splash fighting another pattern? The white seems to come from lower in the body

I’m wondering if those are actually permanent markings or some kind of mysterious medical condition or reaction.

I was thinking about this horse although his spotting is different looking.

I’ve seen some interesting markings that were caused by a reaction to something, because they appeared when the horse was older, definitely not at birth.

Thanks for sharing the link about Magic, that’s quite something!

Is there a “usual pinto pattern?”

Lots of them when you see enough of them. I’m on a couple of color groups on facebook (good ones) when you can have different patterns explained to you in detail. Eventually some of it sinks into my grey matter. This one isn’t normal expression of any white pattern I’m familiar with, or even combinations.

Looks like it’s Lilly Herzog riding Kolora Stud Kendrick. I found this video of him on facebook which gives some of his breeding info (Clinton II x Copabella Visage): https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=795184767887539

Thank you, @risuenaVT! I was trying to crop out personal info (since she’s a junior) this morning when I did the screenshot and then couldn’t remember names later.

Might as well use my USEF membership for something right? Plus he’s gorgeous and I thought Lilly had a very nice round on him

So maternal grandsire is tobiano.

I guess we can assume that the horse in question is tobiano, just a unique presentation. The dark colour on the one back leg isn’t normal. I doubt frame is involved looking at the breeding unless there’s some odd outcross somewhere that carries it. There are a couple of TBs that have frame.

I thought for sure I’d remember both those names when I posted it originally, but…

This horse?

This says he’s by CV, not by Clinton II, maybe that’s listed backwards? I can’t find info on Misty Moonlight to see if she’s by Clinton II

Copabella Visage is Tobi, but also has some Splash going on, but need to see/know more about the mare

I think Tobi and splash makes perfect sense
