Another New Horse - It's Bo!

He’s looking sooooo much better already! Looking forward to seeing more transformation photos as time goes on!

I describe their evening meal like they’re at a restaurant:
Tonight’s dinner consists of an appetizer of locally sourced root vegetables followed by a medley of fresh legumes served with a variety of delicious local grains enhanced with a demi glace. Tonights beverage is artisanal water from our own wells. Bon Appetite!

This translates to carrots with alfalfa and a serving of Haystack Special Blend soaked. Haystack is just Sun Cured Timothy Hay, Sun Cured Alfalfa Hay, Plain Dried Beet Pulp, Flax Seed Meal, Canola Meal, Canola Oil, Heat Stabilized Rice Bran .

One would hope they’d learn tipping is an appreciated gesture :unamused:

Wow, that’s a dramatic and fantastic change in a relatively short period. Makes my heart sing!

I love Haystack products. I cannot imagine living where I can’t get them.

I love their treats too - All natural.

Well, sadly my trailer has been diagnosed as needing new brakes and bearings all the way around… not a super expensive fix, but mildly time consuming for DH. So, the dentist visit will be after that gets fixed in a week or so.

Bo’s excited face for breakfast this morning in the fog:

Still doing great. The rain comes tonight so he will go back to being bundled up for a few days, no wet and cold horses here!

How’s Bo?

I thought of him while feeding this morning. One of ours was a pity buy from a sheriff’s auction - she was among a group of mares who’d been seized by law enforcement due to starvation by their owner. She looked something like Bo when we got her 15 or 16 years ago, though you’d never guess it now. She’s a roly poly thing and still chugging along (though retired) at age 28-ish.

Chugging along! And feeling good enough to offer some opinions about things. He gave me quite the nasty look when I went to put his blanket back on after I dumped his lunch :joy: Sorry buddy, you have to wear a coat in case it rains more today. Once you’re fat you can go naked if you want. I’m strongly considering having him scoped for ulcers (and whatever else we might find in there…) when we get in to see the vet - the other day he gave me the same nasty faces when I touched the girth area, just doing my daily check. But it’s not always consistent.

Here’s the weekly Monday pics, 3 weeks to the day I picked him up.

I know it’s a lot of pics, but I try to get the same angles every week because the straight-on side shots alone are a little deceptive. He’s up to about 17lb of senior a day (4 meals x 4.25lb) plus about a pound of Renew Gold. I can no longer stick my fingers in between his ribs!

My gosh, he looks better! He’ll be a new man by New Year!

It’s amazing what a difference you can make with just a couple of weeks of good food. We won’t recognize him come spring!
