Ok, so here’s why we went back. For reference, the only pertinent things that were done to him today was sedation, dental, and he got a rabies shot.

I’d been keeping an eye on Bo, and he was laying down but quiet. Flat out on his side for a bit. Maybe a total of an hour or so on the ground in different positions. Then he was up, just standing in one spot but up (ponies were also just sleep-standing and resting after their dental work, so NBD). When I went out to go check on him and feed dinner at 5, he looked my way but didn’t move. When I got to him, he was dripping foamy saliva and lethargic, shivering. He was also dead lame on the LH. I took his temp, because he felt ‘hot’ - 101.4. Not ‘fever’ territory, but warmer than normal for him. I coerced him the 50’ or so up to the gate area, at which point I noticed the sclera of his eyes was RED. Checked his gums, bright reddish-blue.

That’s the point where I called the vet’s office and we decided it was best to bring him in. They did the tube into his stomach and flushed it, she said he did have some reflux. They ran some blood tests (sorry, my brain is fried and I don’t remember the names). They came back slightly elevated. He is too dehydrated for a belly tap, they tried. She ultrasounded all over and there was a small section of small intestine (I think) that was less mobile but everything still appeared to be moving. She couldn’t find his left kidney. A catheter was placed and he’s staying overnight to receive fluids, basically… I declined surgical intervention if it comes to that.

So, no news is good news for now. Vet is going to call me in the morning with an update unless he turns for the worse-r.

I loved your post bc COTH doesn’t have a hug/care reaction option.

How scary. I hope he gets better overnight with the fluids.

Serious jingles for you and Bo
