Another rider death

Devastating.

Hugs to you. It should never end like this.

RIP to both souls & condolences to family, friends, and connections.

Does the ERQI system take into account competitiors that are only seasonally in the US? Or are they also pulling results from Canadian events to merge with USEA data? Sad outcome for this pairing & hopefully was not “predictable”—though if it were, that might also imply “preventable”.

Not if another tragedy can be prevented.

Don’t think anyone in Europe will be helped tonight by your post and there is no midnight eventing in the U.S. at this time. Tried to send you a PM but you don’t accept them.
I am happy to delete my post and the quote from yours if you reconsider.

Why don’t you ask an official? We do a lot of asking questions on this BB, and people make a lot of things that sound like facts but are probably just angry guesses I’m not calling you out specifically, but there is probably a good reason a collapsible table hasn’t been implemented I don’t know what the answer is

What design was this? Which officials turned it down and why?

A mim clipped collapsible table.

Collapsible tables are in use here and there but not consistently. There are two different designs that I’m aware of that have been used in competition. The argument a member of the safety committee gave me a few years ago was cost. She wanted to say that the Eventing community didn’t want to fund the changes. I wanted to slap her. Some of you may remember a poll thread on here about willingness. That was me wanting to show her that we were willing. She and the fake experts on the committee didn’t care.

Unfortunately it’s not so uncommon. The trajectory of this type of fall (rotational) makes it incredibly dangerous for both horse and rider. Ashley Stoute’s horse Avant Garde lost his life with her in July of last year in a rotational fall. Coriolanus was euthanized following his rotational fall with Olivia Inglis in Australia in 2016. These are just examples that immediately come to mind - there are many others.

Rotational falls are the single biggest risk to horse and rider safety in our sport. Anything we can be doing to prevent them should be done, if we want to protect our own.

I only live 7 miles from Rocking Horse. My husband drove by there yesterday and told me they were having another event. I was thinking about bringing my daughter up to watch but we got busy.

The family, her friends, everyone who witnessed this accident and anyone affected are in my prayers. What a horrible tragedy.

Obviously, by ‘people’, you mean me.

Last week you were defending ML’s abusive horsemanship and fordtraktor’s inappropriate drunken postings. This week, you’re defending the appalling indifference by the sport orgs to safety in our sport. This last thing in the wake of yet another horse and rider death.

If you want facts, talk to Reed about the collapsible table that he and Gnep designed and built. Or ask Doug Payne - he designed one too. Or do an effing search because it’s been discussed on here numerous times.

I don’t even know what to say anymore at this point.

if experienced riders and horses aren’t safe than no one is

RIP, and condolences to friends and family. Lost a LOT of good horse people the last few months in schooling at events.

I am also enraged and fed up but what good does that do? I feel spurred into action but to do what? As the mother of an eventer who competes on a beloved homebred I do not want to see another name added to the list but short of boycotting Eventing what is there to do with my rage? Definitely open to suggestions if you have any.

For the riders and trainers to stand up and say “enough”. But they won’t.

I’m not sure why you think you’re in charge of this BB or what people are allowed to think or post. You are way out of line accusing people of not caring about safety or abusive riding because they want a fact. You quoted me. Show me where I condoned indifference. Show me where I’ve ever supported abusive riding. Ever.

I want a fact. Specifically, if there is technology to prevent a rotational fall over a table why don’t we use it. From an official. And “just Google it” helps nobody.

You want to make things safer or do you just want to attack people on a BB? Then share what you know, don’t make it harder on people.

What is the official answer to table safety. Not a rumor. In writing. Research behind that. Scientifically. Analytically.

Are they right? If not what do we do next? Not bitch online.

We designed and tested a table over 15 years ago in response to the year when 15 riders were killed internationally. When we posited this design to USEF it was stated it was too expensive for as little as it would be used.

JER and others are spot on in their assessment of the ruling bodies and their lack of engagement. Mostly it is to protect or develop new revenue streams. I see it in the medical device industry as well.
