Another tack question - what kind of boots are right for my new (base narrow) mare?

She has front shoes, and she’s quite base narrow. I am going to get her some rubber bell boots for sure, and my trainer also recommended just standard boots for front and maybe back.

I’m using her only for walk/trot on the flat for the time being, and the footing she’ll be on isn’t fantastic. The ground in the indoor arena is pretty hard, same with the outdoor and the track. Is there a specific type of boot I should be looking for? Brand/material recommendations? As always, thank you all for your expertise.

I like the Woof brushing boots or Shires Arma boots for basic protection against brushing. But I generally don’t use them unless the horse is actually hitting itself (or doing a lot of lateral work). Since she toes in rather than out, she may not need anything.

Also consider some good body work. I suspect she’s not really quite that base-narrow

What kind of exercises would you recommend?

Body work, over exercises, to start. I’d want to see how much muscle tension is pulling those legs in, before deciding what type of exercises are appropriate

Beat me to replying this. That definitely looks postural not conformational (at least, not to the degree shown in the picture).

Another recommendation for the Shires Arma boots, specifically the Air Motion brushing boots.

I also agree with the suggestion of bodywork. I think with some bodywork and proper training, she won’t he as base narrow since it does appear to be postural.
