Another thoroughbred pedigree thread! :)

I was reading the storm cat thread and it made me wonder!!!

I already bought this guy earlier this year but was just wondering what you thought of his pedigree. I am hoping to event him next year.
He is short coupled with a small trot and big canter! Nice jump lots of power. Sensitive personality but a bit of attitude! Apparently they couldn’t get him to race because he didnt like running in a group?

I don’t have any experience with his sire or seen any others locally with that stallion.

Tapit x Storminthegarden by Stormy Atlantic?
http://www.pedigreequery.com/parterre6

According to PQ he sold at auction for 195k at Keeneland January 2011, then for 300k at Fasig Tipton’s saratoga Select Aug 2011 sale. Race people thought a lot of his pedigree if that information is correct.

Equineline shows him as unraced.

Eventers here seem to be very high on Stormy Atlantic, and Tapit is one of the current great race sires. Tail female is quite lovely–North of Eden was a great broodmare and Tree of Knowledge was Theatrical’s dam, IIRC. Tree of Knowledge’s sire, Sassafras, was possibly the last major sire from the Barcaldine branch of Matchem. Little Hut was also the dam of Habitat and a rather well known passer on of “the jump.” Northfields is one of the No. Dancers to look for jumping. Your horse comes from generations of well bred horses from great breeders.

I would break all my SC rules for a Stormy Atlantic. Be fair and he’ll be fair to you as well–bet he’s a looker.

Nice pedigree. There aren’t many Tapits in sport yet, as they have been burning up the track. I really like him for an eventer though, both pedigree and type. I’m a big fan of the AP Indy/Pulpit sireline, and it works very well on Fappiano. Tapits tend to be compact, attractive, very athletic, and well balanced. Some are are rumored to be a little tough mentally (hot) but the ones I’ve known were good minded.

Stormy Atlantic is another plus. He tends to throw nice, fancy horses. Some may be a little overbuilt behind (Storm Cat trait) but it depends on the individual. Temperament is usually pretty even keeled.

Without seeing Parterre, I’d expect him to be around 16h, balanced, strong, and attractive with some white. Not surprised to hear he has a powerful canter and a good jump. Good luck with him!

eh…don’t be afraid of a storm cat…especially through Stormy Atlantic.

I’d be a bit concerned why something bred like him didn’t race (I personally prefer good race horses for eventing)…but nice pedigree. Perhaps they just didn’t wait until he was mature enough.

My newest prospect is this guy http://www.pedigreequery.com/sheridan+square

Super smart, really good mind, good mover and very athletic. But my guy had a bunch of starts…moved down the levels but has very clean legs and passed a thorough PPE. My guy has a huge trot…but I think that is coming from other lines in his pedigree.

Yes that is him! His registered name Parterre. He is 16 hands and very compact. So far he has been super easy to handle and ride. However, someone has told me he was banned from the track for being dangerous and that was why he didnt race. I haven’t tried to confirm that though. It seems like they did put some pressure on him because when you ask for faster gears he wants to shut down and stop but I find by GENTLY keep on asking he will then choose to move forward again. It has gotten way better. In the field or trail we have no issues with being forward. He is solid chestnut with a beautiful face that has white.

Would be interested in anyone else’s experiences with tap it’s offspring!

Thank you for all your replies!!!

There are not many that I’ve heard of in sport horse hands yet. There are a ton of AP Indy offspring, and some Pulpit and tons of Unbriddled out there though.

As for AP Indy…many of his direct offspring and many more grand kids are doing quite well in sport. Typically great hindends on them…good jumps.

It’s pretty easy to get that “dangerous” tag if they just don’t want to play by track rules. I know one that got it because he was big and couldn’t figure out how to break from the gate without bashing himself on the sides (young and gawky and klutzy). So he politely declined. Apparently he’d load… and carefully (and slowly) pick his way out if he’d leave at all. He made a lovely dressage horse…

Agree on Stormy Atlantic–I have a fabulous one.

Really nice jumper, fancy, pretty sane.

I have a Pulpit grandson

Not sure if that is a close enough relative to be relevant. He’s too young to have a good sense of him. Brave, but more horse than the Stormy Atlantic Son.

Tapit is still fairly young so not a ton of his offspring have entered sport careers. The ones I have seen have nice natural jumps. I was in LOVE with one offered by a reseller last year. He was very hunter-y. Great knees and a long slow step,
Tapit is currently “the elite stallion” in racing but I think he’s slower ones will be nice sport prospects.
I was at the sale when he sold at Saratoga. I can’t find my catalog, if I do turn it up, I will see if I wrote any notes about him.

That would be so great!! I’m guessing he was fairly small for his age. He just seemed to grow this year to the 16 hand mark!

I also would be interested to hear of any more “dangerous horse” stories! I haven’t seen/heard of that much…

Interesting pedigree on this one. The first dam is bred on similar cross as Tapit (Pulpit over Fappiano). I’m not sure what Street Sense throws yet, haven’t seen enough of them. Street Cry earned much appreciation for his standout performers-- particularly, Zenyatta and Street Sense-- but to me he seemed to allow a lot of mare influence, inconsistent in type. Z has strong reflections of Kris S from her dam, while Street Sense shows Dixieland Band. Wonder if Street Sense will stamp his get, or if the mare will shine through like his sire? You’ve got a nce damline there, though on Street Cruise.

Actually I just realized I know another one… (a friend just reminded me). He didn’t like being in a pack, and jumped the rail to get away from it midrace . Got tossed from the track for that one understandable. Apparently he did it in lovely form however because his owners promptly shipped him to a jump trainer… last I heard he was a lovely ammy eventer.

I have had a Tapit gelding. He was very one-dimensional–his way or not at all.
Not sure that’s typical, but there you have it. I won’t go there again.

Thanks for the analysis!
If it helps, I have a (old) confo pic I took at the track, so he was almost 4 here

I was told at one time his front end was more Pulpit-ish?

Yup, that’s the classic Pulpit/AP Indy front end (that I love!). Nice shoulder, lovely neck, uphill balanced feel, pleasant face. That front end is very heritable through 3-4 generations, top or bottom of the pedigree. I’ve seen it a hundred times, through offspring of AP Indy sons, grandsons, and daughters. I think it’s a conformation trait very ideal for sport.

^ Thanks for the info!
So interesting to learn more about their breeding, and to know that he came out as expected.

OP, do you have a pic of your horse?

I had a horse by Tree of Knowledge several years ago. He was a horse of a lifetime rode him around Rolex ky best horse ever
