Answer for Coreene (but will it go on for 52 pages???)

I know you’re worried about your friend, Jason, but here’s something that might just cheer you up:

I now know, precisely, where Kimmie McDonald is and if she’s still riding!

I literally just got off the phone with Bob. Kimmie runs a tack store in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She still rides. She shows part-time in amateur jumpers. She does the buy/sell thing with horses some, and keeps her horses at River Grove. And she’s getting married in a while! And I asked all this info, just for you.

He got a kick out of hearing that I’d met this woman who’d actually ridden Winston, the Wonder Lesson Horse.

And speaking of margaritas, Mr. dublin and I had some tasty ones while watching the Grand Prix at Menlo yesterday.

The weather was perfect, and the polo grounds is a lovely setting. Lu Thomas continued to be on a tear, winning it on her lovely gray stallion Lavita, with 2 clear rounds, and a jumpoff time of 43.266. John French was second on Millenium, with two clears and a time of 45.088.

Looked like the Southern California contingent that competed in the GP at Pebble Beach had returned home, as there were only 19 entrants this week, versus 34 at PB, but it was still lots of fun to watch. (And the weather DEFINITELY beat that at PB… )

Ah, as in The Hambola Virus? Hammie says, “I resemble that remark, Wty!”

No, he’s not related to anyone we have currently. That colt’s mom was the sweetest TB mare. We bought her at the Hollywood Park sale. We were bidding against a race trainer from Arizona and a collection of backstretch pony girls who wanted Crystal as a pony horse!

So the mouthy part is not DNA-related. Chalk it up to, ahem, one of those stamps we place on virtually everything foaled on our place. Ain’t we proud that all of our horses are obnoxious?

How long has it been for the “Merry ?” thread? Oh, let’s just not go there and unbury the dead!

We have a new game: Six Degrees of Separation from Our Former Horses. Name a famous/well known horse and see how long before someone else knows someone who has/does own it!

By the way, how’s Melissa C.?

Why just this very evening, dearest Hans was musing, “darling Heidi, if you were a goat, I’d bet you’d be the most placid and calm goat in the herd”. So to you, Beezer and Merry.

How’s this for a really weird Marianne Williamson/Shirley Maclaine “no!!!” moment. I spent the first 5 years of my life on a…goat farm in Korea.

To this day I still have memories of delivering goat’s milk to our neighbours, and a rather unfortunate incident involving loose goats and their kids in the house. In fact, somewhere in the house, do believe there’s a picture of my 3-year-old self surrounded by goats. The eeriness is compounded by the fact that they too were all named Merry.

Non-smoking incentive: I must, I must, I must, I must increase my butt!

Richard, Hap and the Simpsons were in Europe and most of Rainbow Canyon went to Menlo. I think we had 120 less than last year, and if you add up what they brought last year you find the 120.

I think there were 26 in the Grand Prix down here.

Welcome back, Rusty!

Merry & Beezer, I believe we all put those, shall we say, “environmental” stamps on our buddies. I personally know of some traits mine all seem to garner without the assistance of DNA. Some I will admit to being my fault, the others…this is where I get a wide-eyed stare and simply shrug my shoulders!

I think we should play the Six Degrees of Separation game with our former horses. Great entertainment while imbibing Rusty’s specialty, and Wty and Merry and Beezer have already started!

Merry, dear, you’re not being quite truthful … he was SENT to Patrick with the warning that he ate fly masks and lead ropes on a regular basis (and are you forgetting that he also ate tails!!! )

Which was why we found it soooo funny when we saw him a few months later, Patrick was moaning about how he was going broke buying fly masks to replace all the ones the mouthy monster was eating off his neighbors!

Are you home yet?

Yeeeeess! Now, if only we knew that Clifford the rental-string wonder horse also had a happy ending.

Can you work on answering that one, too, Merry??

  1. Butch and Lu Thomas were very, very close friends of Bob and Debbie McDonald (still are).

  2. We sold a two yr. old to Patrick Spanton, a Trakehner that came out a pinto (total accident) that Patrick showed, won on and sold for $$$$. It’s name was Paint the Town.

  3. I almost posted a topic, “Question for the FBI re: rusty”!

The manners we seem to imprint on them are really scary sometimes. Like Willem had impeccable ground manners when I first bought him, and three days later they were already shot to hell. We won’t even begin to discuss what hand feeding has done.

His nick name is JAWS! He eats all of his leads, sheets and halters. They have lovely race track screens so he can hang his head out. But they didn’t know, when they got him, how absolutely oral he is. That has since been corrected, moved, hung differently, anything to keep things away from him. He is a good boy, and does really well for his owner. Great on the trails, and enjoys being spoiled, ahem.

Sorry I don’t have any pictures of the pgymy goats…boo hoo… You all would have loved them. Mary is grey, and Heidi, who is beligerent is brown. The kids give them baths during the summer. The goats actually fence with the cats, for the cats food. Its hysterical to watch.

Don’t worry Beezer, the owner has corgis, females. I don’t think Beezer would be on the top of her list for names…

Uh … Yeah. Sure, Merry. Whatever you say.

Like, you people think I’m gonna argue with the woman who will hold my life in her hands when she sets the fences for Beezer while she rides Tigger and the Hanoverian Cow Beast??

As for you, Miz Heidi Goat, if the collar fits… (But this is why we love you.)

This totally makes my day. Sitting here feeling very sorry for Jason and very sorry for myself, selfishly, because I was so upset re having seen it.

And then - Winston and Kim and all these wonderful memories come flooding back and now I’m in floods of tears writing this.

Bob must have been floored! I so enjoyed riding with him and Ed. And too freaky for words that we all know Winston. And have all ridden him. And then Beezer and I both rode Clifford at that rental place at Harbor and Warner. Beezer and I working at the same place at the same time for a week. Me buying stuff from you when you worked at that tack shop in HB. One of Beezer’s staff married to one of my coworkers. And so on and so on and so on.

And all the great friends that we’ve made on this BB.

I have to excuse myself now so that I can sneak off to the bathroom to cry. Sorry for getting so melodramatic, but … aw … snif-snif.

but what happend to coreene’s Jason thread? It says 13 replies but no one is home when I open it.

Shall I take it personally, or would someone like to turn the light on for me?

“The older I get, the better I used to be.”

Yes, I guess it is an imprinting sort of thing with our horses. As in, “I know what I want, and I want it NOW!”
(Methinks it sounds a bit like me… Hmmm… How can that be!)

To think I was hoping for an I.M. Pei building named in my honour…but must now settle for livestock.

You did name them before you ever ventured onto the BB, right wtywmn?

Having been mowed down when younger several times by ornery little goats, that’s about the extent of my goat love.

However, little goats pulling little carts in movies like “Heidi” (hello, Heidi of the Alps and not Mrs Sumo’s Mommy) are very cute. So long as they stay away from my backside.
