Ant hill in the arena

I have a small arena at home that was put in a few months ago. I’ve got a problem with red ants that have created an ant hill. The area was previously unused and overgrown with weeds so they were probably already established. When I drag the arena I cover it up but they come back. I thought I could drown them out but instead I created a small sink hole. What can I safely use around my horses and other pets to get rid of the ants?

There is ant killer you place on the mound that will kill all the ants, forgot the name, they are granules, Lowes sells it.
If you don’t want to use poison then I have had good luck pouring vinegar down the hole.

Search this forum for “fire ants” lots of good info. It’s probably a year old.

Amdro. It will take a week or so but it kills the queen. That’s the only way you will get rid of the ants. And it’s not a poison that will affect horses so no worries. Granules.

Or check with your Extension office and find out what works well in your area. You can also ask at your local co-op. You can try at Tractor Supply (or another “big box” store) but be prepared to get advice that you wlll have to carefully double check.

Good luck with your problem.

Liquid ant killer, poured straight from the bottle, right down the hole. I’ve used up to 1/2 gallon at a time for the bigger hills. You can kick dirt over that, in my experience, ants are gone within 24 hours.

I was going to suggest Napalm or a flame thrower but maybe save that idea in case the other suggestions are not successful.

Good Luck!
