Any big races on this weekend?

Now THAT was a horse race.

Curlin digs deep to finally pass Lawyer Ron just before the post in the JCGC.
Is the only one of these 3yos to have beaten older horses? Tough nut he is.

Also makes for 3 G1 winners today with Smart Strike as the Daddy, from 6f to 12f, on grass and dirt.[/QUOTE]

Tiago beat older horses yesterday.

What was up with LR being rank again, I thought they fixed that.

So now everybody has beaten everybody and confuses everything more. At least for me. The top 6 (SS, AGS, Crln, Tgo, HS, LR) are all good imo. The question is, who loves Mnth?

btw, Tiago beat older horses, if you count him in-I know some don’t.

Yeah, funny point Tex-I think they’re cute though.

I think those Three Chimneys personal ad commercials are adorable. They must have a super advertising/marketing company because they always have such good commercials for their stallions.

Having said that, who exactly they’re targeting these ads to is a good question. I hadn’t thought of that… and now I will everytime I see one!

I think they’re super adorable too. I love all the stallion commercials and I’m not complaining about them. But I just can’t help but wonder who they’re supposed to appeal to. It’s not like the casual TV-watching racing fan could afford to breed to any of those stallions. And do you really think someone like George Strawbridge turns to ESPN when booking his mares?

Tiago-- I thought he was awesome! I’m glad he’s coming into himself.

I almost wonder if Lawyer Ron and Curlin might have burned themselves up a bit today in preparation for the BC… that was quite a stretch run.

Agreed. Great race! And a classy horse he is, quite gutsy. I’d like him in my barn (if I had one!)

Curlin’s race was impressive too, but I wonder how LR would have done if not so rank in the beginning of the race… However, all in all a good day of racing.

I have a theory on the ads.

ESPN has got the racing industry by the nuts, since the ratings for racing are very low. In order to carry it, I would bet that ESPN needs a guarantee of so much money in ads, which the NTRA gives them. Then the NTRA goes to the big farms and says, “You’ll be out of business if racing isn’t on TV and the market goes completely away.” So the big farms that can afford to kick in an ad campaign at reduced rates, with the NTRA making up some difference, do to keep racing in front of the TV audience for the next generation.

If you look at how many ads Kentucky has to buy to get the Rolex on TV at all, you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Also Any Given Saturday beat older horses (albeit lesser quality older horses) in the Brooklyn last week. Street Sense and Hard Spun were also in against two older horses but I dare not care them older “rivals.”

I agree about the farm ads. They are “industry supports ads.” The theory is that they are supporting racing by supporting the network that puts it on TV.

I would love to have seen the head on shot of that move…

Also, Political Force was in behind Curlin and Lawyer Ron who couldn’t get a break in the traffic. It might have been an even better race.

You can watch the Head-on at calracing.com.
There was a slight bit of bumping as he passed, but he had a bonafide hole to go through. If anything the other horse came in on top of him, you can see where he checks and his head goes up in the air.
Gutsy horse I must say.

What’s with all the dust being kicked up on Belmont’s Turf course? Has it been really dry there?

Industry support makes sense… Good for the barns for not phoning it in and making cheap looking ads (“This is Dynaformer. He was a good race horse. Breed to him and get good baby raceshorses.” spoken while a picture of Dynaformer is shown for 30 seconds). It’s cool that they’re so creative about it.

I made it home just in time to see English Channel shoot through the hole. And of course, there was lots of yelling and “helping” down the stretch for Curlin. I love that horse. Thanks, Linny, for giving us the heads up on him a ways back. I hope they keep him going for his 4 year old season…
