Any Experience with the Bridles from Schneider's (SStack.com)?

My horse is in need of a new bridle and I saw this one in Schneider’s newest catalog and it looks interesting to say the least. Any experience with bridles from SStack-- I’m curious as to what the quality is like / how long they’ll last.

Or for a little more more money, there’s Jerry’s Harness Shop or OS (Otto Schumacher) bridles hmmm…

Opinions? TIA.

Bump-- anyone??

No experience with the Schneider’s bridles, but they caught my eye as well. I really like the cutaway crown - it looks so much more comfortable.

If you end up getting one, let us know how you like it.

I have bought a lot from Schneiders and I have never had any issues. I mainly buy their sheets and blankets (they last forever, are competitively priced and have a warranty!). I can say that I would at least try it. Maybe ask the rep if they are returnable?

Yeah, I really liked the cutaway crown too! There are so many different crown styles these days, but that is my favorite, and not many places have that kind (I know OS does, and some of Jerry’s but that’s all I know of).

I’ll post an update if I end up getting one, but my horse who was thought to be healed, and ready to start back under saddle, was still lame today :frowning: so because of that, I no longer need to get a new bridle right now.

I’d check where the leather is from. Their blankets are made in India. I like their blankets–in fact the only thing my horse can wear without getting rubs. But they are inexpensive because they are made in India. I wouldn’t want leather that was made in India.

Stay very far away from their Raleigh line of tack! If I were to purchase any of their bridles, I would feel safest with the Joseph Sterling line. I’ve never seen one of the Sterling bridles, but I did receive a Raleigh halter and it reeked so badly of “camel pee” that I didn’t even remove it from the crinkly plastic bag it came in! It was the most inferior, cheapest piece of craptastic tack that I’ve ever had the displeasure of smelling. The Billy Royal leather is pretty good, but it’s only in their western tack & halters. I’ve found that their leather is priced appropriately for the value.

I’ve only ordered their western leather goods, and while the higher end Billy Royal line is decent, the lower end Raleigh products are made in India- stiff leather, uneven stitching, hardware that rusts, and “silver” that tarnishes. But hey, what else do you want for a $30 double ear silver show headstall?! Based on the two headstalls that I have, I don’t know if I would purchase their english bridles, perhaps the high end line if anything.

Handcrafted in the finest English Sedgwick leather

Sedgwick leather is generally quite nice english leather, but since its “made of finest English Sedgwick leather”, but doesn’t say where its made, its likely assembled in india/china, etc. That doesn’t necessarily condemn it to being craptastic though. I’d ask about a return policy.

I have also been looking at a few of their bridles. I need a new show bridle and really like look of some of them and the new “easy change” system some of them have. I too use their blankets and sheets and have been very happy with the product.

I owned a Joseph Sterling Dressage saddle that I got off ebay a few years ago. It was used and in great shape. I used it for 3 years. Then got a new horse and it didnt fit her (it was a wide tree) Anyway, the leather held up great. Didnt have any major marks. I actually sold it to a lady in my GMO and she is now using it and loves it too. Unfortunatly, Joeshp Sterling/ sstack doesnt make the dressage saddle anymore or I probably would have ordered the same one in a med tree

I just bought a double bridle at their store. It’s a Pinnacle and the pricetag showed $49!!! I even had my friend check it, to make sure I wasn’t missing a 1 or 2 before the 49…

The thing is, it feels and looks really nice! Very evenly cut and put together, The leather the same throughout.
I won’t be using it until this spring, as my horse is hibernating right now. Can’t wait to see how it holds up!!!

Wow! Thanks for that information-- let us know how it holds up!!

I purchased a sale dressage bridle from SS 4 years ago for $125 and it was a Stubben worth over $300!!! It is the best bridle I’ve ever owned, my trainer’s favorite, and has gone through 2 show horses. Stubben bridles, IMHO, are simply the best out there. Anyway, I purchase many things from SS, including the best blankets on the market. I would steer clear of the Raleigh brands, like other posters suggested. The Sterling is worth a try because they will take it back if you bellieve its inferior.

Maybe you and I were in Schneider’s the same day. A few years ago I found a gorgeous Barnsby bridle there for $125. It, too, was worth around $300.

To head off topic for a moment, I love Schneider’s DuraTech turnout halters that have the little leather piece on the side (not crown) that will break away and can easily be replaced for about $2.00. My horse is a halter tag champ, and I can’t tell you how much money that halter has saved me.

Indian leather is not what it used to be. You can get Indian made stuff that is better than stuff made in England, for a much lower cost! Did you know that some of Stubben’s products are made in India? As well as Ovation and Dover’s less expensive bridles and many others. You would be surprised. I bet I could show you my Indian made bridle and a bridle like a Schumacher, Vespucci, Bobby’s, and you would not be able to tell the difference. I took one to the tack store once to look for matching reins, it was a figure-8 jumper bridle made in India, and I thought mine was better quality than anything they had there.

MORE SURPRISES

Not only are many brands that you think are made in India , made in India but many International brands are made in India but are not labeled as such… You would be surprised.

Yup! I have my suspicions on a few brands. I have lots of tack made in India so I’ve gotten to know a few of the makers, and one was saying how they were so busy with a big order from Germany.
