Any foxhunters crave adventure? Headwaters Hounds is seeking a SPECIAL staff member.

My friend, the master of Colorado’s Headwaters Hounds, asked me to ‘find her a right-hand assistant.’
This board is by far the best resource out there and I throw this to the wind that is CotH’s wide-webbed community.
(PS I can personally vouch for the whole setup; I delivered her a trio of staff horses at the end of summer and have hunted with her several times.)

Want to ride, foxhunt, SKI this fall/winter/spring!!!
Headwaters Hounds in Salida, Colorado is seeking a very special person to join their team.
The master of the MFHA’s newest recognized hunt is looking for a skillful rider who’d like to live and work in one of Colorado’s most beautiful high river valleys for the 2015-2016 hunt season.

  • Duties include: Exercising hunt horses and young stock; barnwork/farmwork; hunting (if desired), possibly helping staff. Helping in kennels will be a secondary, occasional chore.
  • Benefit package includes: Free room and board; travel expenses for relocation; free hunt membership; free annual ski pass to Monarch(!); monthly stipend for extra work. This position allows many ‘afternoons off’ for training/exercising other horses, teaching lessons or more. There is also a possibility of helping with light (or heavy!) construction for extra pay (the hunt is adding a new barn, expanded kennels and a riding arena.) Possible lessons with local upper-level eventer (included.) Possible board on a personal horse.
  • Requirements: Hunt experience not absolutely required but strongly favored; “B” pony club experience (or equivalent) not absolutely required but strongly favored; general knowledge of stable and horse management (feeding, general care, farm operations) required.
  • This job particularly suits a graduate pony club member; a pre- (or post-) college grad looking for a ‘gap year’; an older experienced foxhunter looking for a temporary (or permanent) scene change; or an adventurous horseman looking for something new!
  • The position is for one season to start but can easily transition into a permanent professional whipper-in position and/or permanent hunt stable manager position.

Are you sure this isn’t in Salida CO?

I wish I wasn’t practically engaged and in school. I would do it in a heartbeat. I miss hunting and working for a hunt. Working for Red Rock was some of the best times of my life.
