I know I could call a bunch of shipping companies, but I was hoping someone here might have an idea.
Wondering what the ballpark is to ship from East Coast to West Coast (Northeast to Oregon (just over the California border)?
I recently shipped two horses coast to coast. One from New York to Washington State, the other from florida to Washington State. I used Nationwide Horse Transport for both. The one from Florida coast a little over $2000. The one from New York cost $1800 (roughly). this included a few day stay over at their facility in Colorado. Both horses got off the van fresh, fat, and happy! Very pleased with this company.

Not sure if it helps, but my new horse arrived Wed. night from New Mexico, and the original cost was supposed to be $1,600. However, since the guy I bought him from also ships horses, he gave me a great deal and only charged me $1,000.
Do a search for āhorse transportationā (or something along those lines) and youāll find a link referred to in several threads that will allow you to request a bid from shippers.
Iām shipping 4-6 horses from Washington State to North Carolina in the next few months and the bids Iāve received for 5 horses are all around $5000 (with the exception of Bob Hubbardācoincidentally, the only shipper Iāve ever used with any regularityāwho quoted me $12,000). I would guess that shipping a single horse would be in the $2000 range.
I have received quotes on an upcoming shipment of a weanling from Iowa to Oregon between $750 and $3895ā¦for what its worth, I have been researching the lowbidder and they have excellent reviews on Uship, as well as having talked to several other people who have used them.
My Dās horse came from Florida (Wellington) to SoCal a year and a half ago and I believe the cost was $1,900.

I paid $1200 to ship my mare from NE FL to NW WA. It was awful! The horse was in pretty good condition, but the communication was awful, with me getting 3 different stories from three different people in that company. It took her over two weeks to get here, when it should have been around 8 days. I was NOT happy. I am still NOT happy.
Be careful who you use. This company had pretty good reviews. It was later that I realized that they are very good at covering up unhappy customers.
I thought I had my bases covered. I thought I was a smart girl. Ugh! I used Equine Interstate Transport out of California. I will never use them again.
Iām not trying to be super negative (even though this post is super negative). Please be careful. You get what you pay for most times in situations like this. There are good, honest shippers out there!

A single stall? Really? I was floored to find out that a single stall was even an option on a cross country trip. I cannot imagine putting a horse through that journey in a single stall, no matter how many rest stops they may make.

I called around last year for a rate from N.CA to central NY.
The rates were in the 2500.00+ range for a box stall with a layover.
For what is worth, I have used All Stateā¦MN to central NY and also a return out that way. I was satisfied with them and would likely use them again. Their communication was good and equiptment decent, nothing fancy. It was a large gooseneck trailer and there were 2 drivers.
Make sure you can have communication enroute and the shipper you choose gives you a detail of what they provide.
I used a shipper years ago from KY to NY. I was specific in my not wanting the horse to have grain for that 2 day trip. I found out they gave him a lot of sweet feed on the way and the trip took a day+ longer than they said. I was not happy! When they arrived on the dirt road of the farm (at 11PM) they refused to park on the wrong side of the road so that we could pull the ramp out where it was less steep. This road has no traffic but they insisted on turning around. The ramp was so steep and by that time had some frost on it, that the horse would not come off. 2 hours later we gave up and they closed up the trailer and spent the night with the horse on, in a parking lot in town. Came back the next morning and this time they listened to me and we pulled the ramp out into the driveway, making the incline less. I brought a lunge line and had to use it behind to get the horse to leave the trailer. He finally did but what a long, tiring journey for him! I refused to pay them and they ended up giving me the trip at n/c.
Needless to say they are no longer in business.
We flew some from Seattle, WA, to WEF this winter and it was $3800. Not sure if that was one way or round trip. The quote to haul in a semi was $3400.

Itās not really a single stall. Nationwide uses 1 1/2 stalls as a āsingleā stall, vs a box stall. They donāt ship cross country in a ārealā single stall. I shipped a horse from PA to UT for about $1500 the end of December. They have a couple of days layover in Colorado. Apparently they have east coast to Colorado and west coast to Colorado drivers/vans, so if your horse is going through they have a couple of days rest and change drivers/vans in Colorado. Very, very, very good company. My horse arrive looking like she had just ridden around the block. The office people told me thay had all visited her and told me how good she looked when at the rest station. They have stalls and some turnout there. Very nice.

I justed shipped a horse from CT to Northwest MT. I used M & N Horse Transportation out if Kentucky, they were wonderful! Their schedule did not include many drop-off or pick-ups so it was a fairly direct trip for him, he was in transit for only 4 days. Communication was very good, the people were friendly, helpful and timely. I paid $1200, which was a very good price given the remoteness of my destination.
They do a cross country trip at least once a month, I would highly recommend them!

was going to comment on this but you beat me to it! Their āsingle stallsā are actually pretty roomy. AND they called everyday while both my horses were laid over in Colorado to give me updates. Very good company, perhaps reconsider! Like I said, both horses got off the van fresh, happy and healthy
Cox Equine Transport is GREAT to work with. Iāve never seen anyone ship a horse in a āsingleā stall. Theyāre always in at least a stall and half, and the shippers will generally give the horses more room as it becomes available if they want/need it.
All horses travel differently. I had one that would rather go with me on my 2 horse bumper pull across country and lay up at a different barn every night than travel in the lap of luxury in the biggest box stall the commercial shipper had. Not my husbandās idea of fun, but I will never forget opening the real Justiceās escape door at every gas station between Michigan and California and giving him a Cactus Cooler and watching all the little kids come and pet him. He thought it was the best thing that ever happened to him. Whenever we shipped him cross country commercially he would lose weight and arrive kicking and screaming and I would receive numerous phone calls from the shippers en route that he was causing trouble. As long as he went with me or a trainer, he was happy as a clam.
I am currently shipping from VA to SoCal and I got many quotes. Most were in the 1200 -1400 range. You shouldnāt have to pay 2500 unless you get a HUGE stall for your horse to ship in. I also used Cox and so far am very happy with their service. My horse will be at their lay-over facility in TX for a few days before finishing the last leg (only an entire week for the whole thing) on Sat. Ishi said they were very professional and felt comfortable with Jane getting on board. I looked here on the search and found several people loved Cox so I went with them and so far have not been disappointed. Good luck!
I just shipped a horse from NorCal to Kentucky with Cox. Really great to work with, very professional. They use slant loads with floor to ceiling dividers and donāt tie the horses so the horses can drop their heads during the trip. Took six days door to door with a layover in Gainesville, TX. $1,450.
I wanted to thank you all very much for sharing the costs and the horse transport companies that you were pleased with, that was very helpful. I will give Nationwide and Cox a call since these were the most mentioned companies and see if I can get one of them to bring my horse from New Jersey to Wa state.

~$4000 for a box stall. I wonāt ship in anything smaller for that distance. That said, more of the sale horses Iāve seen going that distance have flown than driven. Itās more, but not unreasonably so.
