Any info or solutions on lump from getting kicked?

One of my horses was kicked in the side recently and appeared to be tying up after the kick? She was very sore in front of her flank (where she was kicked). The next day I went to check on her and she has a large hard lump under her stomach below where she was kicked. Has anyone had a similar experience where you could give any info on what the lump is or possible solutions?

Thanks!

Have it checked out by your vet, and follow his suggestions. He has eyes, and fingers on the priblem, and I’m sure has seen others. We’re just guessing.

Most likely a hematoma; basically, like a blood-and-fluid filled bruise that we get.
My mare had one of these that hung around for a couple of months. The vet at the barn where she was in training wanted to lance it; my vet said ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! and said rub DMSO into it every day for a week. So that’s what we did, and it went away quickly, though she still sweats a little differently on that spot.

I would assume that it’s a seroma from where fluid is draining from the kick site?

One of my mares broke her [furthest back] rib busting through a fence last year (technically it was an injury to the cartilaginous portion of that back rib). She had minor swelling over the rib, but it drained a lot of fluid that left a swelling the size of half of a watermelon on her stomach directly below the rib. The swelling wasn’t of consequence, and the only thing we could do was wait for it to disperse and give her time for her rib to heal.

Perfect! I will try that, Thank you!

I used DMSO when my horse got kicked in the chest causing a large accumulation of fluid. I did consult the vet first though.
